Adam McLean took the Supersport Race

Records continue to tumble at Billown

Lap records were broken in every race during the Isle of Man TT last week and the trend continued at the Radcliffe Butchers Post TT meeting around the 4.25-mile Billown Circuit outside Castletown where records went in all three races on Saturday.

It was a terrific meeting for Winston McAdoo's Gortreagh Printing Kawasaki Team taking two victories and three lap records to cement a good fortnight for the Cookstown team.

Adam McLean (22) from Tobermore got the team off to a winning start with victory in the opening eight-lap Supersport race where just two-10ths of a second separated him and team mate James Cowton after 36 miles of racing.

Cowton set a new lap record on the eighth and final lap with a speed of 109.311mph in his pursuit of McLean while Joey Thompson, mentored by Ian Lougher, made it a Kawasaki 1-2-3.

The 650cc Supertwin and 250cc GP machines were next and 20-year-old Yorkshire rider Thompson (650cc Paton) took a comfortable nine and a quarter second victory in a record time from the 650cc McAdoo Kawasaki of Cowton, who set his second lap record of the night with a speed of 102.758mph.

Cowton then jumped on the 1000cc McAdoo Kawasaki and steered it to a four and a half second victory over the BMW of Rob Hodson in the Manx Independent Carriers race.

Third place was filled by Spirit of the TT Award winner Ryan Kneen (BMW) in a plucky ride following the death of his brother Dan in a TT practice accident.

Cowton made it a hat-trick of lap records with a last lap of 112.345mph.

And what a TT it was for Burrows Engineering rider Davey Todd, with the 22-year old from Saltburn winning the Newcomer and Privateer titles for John Burrows' Dungannon-based team and also named RST Star of Tomorrow in recognition of his performances. Todd also became the second fastest newcomer in TT history with a lap of 128.379mph on his way to a top 10 Senior TT finish.

Burrows said:

"After last year with four starts and four non-finishes with Derek Sheils there was a bit of pressure on to make sure that didn't happen again.

"So, to have eight starts and eight finishes with Davey and AJ Venter proved that we as a team know how to do a job at the TT. Davey in particular was just outstanding."
