Preparations for the 2021 MotoGP™ Word Championship continue to ramp up with a selection of riders and manufacturers in the sunny south of Spain once again at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto for private testing.
Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’s Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo Savadori were spotted at the track as they sought out some improvements, while KTM and Honda were also represented, with their test riders Dani Pedrosa, Mika Kallio and Stefan Bradl in attendance.
The sunny weather gave riders favourable conditions to test out their 2021 bikes, and it was Aleix Espargaro who shone brightest as he recorded a best lap of 1:37.714 on day two. Riding on the new RS-GP 2021, the Catalan completed 42 laps as he took the opportunity to become accustomed to his new bike.
Savadori couldn’t quite match the pace of his more senior teammate, placing fourth of the riders there with a 1:39.869, but still improving on his Monday time by eight-tenths. Aprilia remain the only factory to still have concessions, as they have not yet achieved enough concession points to lose them.
Honda test rider Bradl was quickest on Monday and second quickest on Tuesday, with the German completing 77 laps on the second day. He set a 1:38.289 to improve by seven-tenths. KTM’s Dani Pedrosa also improved his times, hitting 1:38.607 while riding the RC-16 2021. Wednesday sees the final laps of the private test take place.
