With the morale boost of a 100% victory rate in the 2021 MotoGP season so far, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team are eager to put their YZR-M1s to the test at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto this weekend.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP‘s Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales are particularly excited about this weekend‘s Gran Premio de España. The team-mates share good memories of the two back-to-back races held at this circuit last year, scoring 1-2 results in both for Yamaha, and they are looking to reproduce this achievement this Sunday.

Quartararo became a fan of the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto last year. He was unbeatable there in 2020 and opened the season with two victories. This year he comes to the Andalucian circuit with already two 2021 Grand Prix victories to his credit. He would love to continue his and Yamaha‘s winning streak by adding another one to the tally and extend his current 15-point lead in the championship standings.

Viñales looks forward to getting into action at the Jerez track. Having secured third place there in 2019 and second place in both 2020 races, he is feeling confident that he can battle for the honours again this weekend. He is determined to return to the podium this Sunday and make further steps in the championship classification, as he currently holds third place, 20 points from first.

The Circuito de Jerez was built in 1986 and has been one of the most popular MotoGP events of the season ever since. Blessed with good weather, beautiful scenery, fast corners, and hard braking areas, the 4.4km circuit offers unforgettable racing action every year. Its lay-out has five left and eight right corners and a 607-meter longest straight.

Those who want to refresh their memories of what the Jerez track looks like can watch MotoGP eSport rider Lorenzo Daretti negotiate this circuit in the MotoGP21 Videogame in this week‘s eLap video.

Fabio Quartararo

"I‘m excited to go racing in Jerez this weekend. We start this GP with a lot of confidence. Last year I won both races at that track. This year I begin the Spanish GP having won the two previous races. Of course, you never know what can happen in MotoGP, but I‘m feeling good at the moment, so we will do our best again!"

Maverick Viñales

"Normally, I feel really good in Jerez. It‘s a track where we usually go fast and are quite consistent. The race in Portimao didn‘t go as planned, but last year we have seen how strong we can be in Jerez. If everything goes like that again this weekend, I can take care of the rest."

Massimo Meregalli - Team Director

"We‘re in for another exciting MotoGP race weekend. Needless to say, we are all highly motivated. Our team has won the first three GPs of the season, and we know that the Jerez track suits our bike in dry and hot temperatures. Last year, in July, Fabio and Maverick scored first and second place in both races in Jerez. While we don‘t expect track temperatures to get quite that high this year, the weather forecasts do predict a dry race weekend, so we reckon we are in with a good chance to fight for top results again."
