How cold was Brands Hatch?
Brands Hatch - April 2008
As we arrived at Brands for the 1st round the team was full of nervous excitement and anticipation.
Friday dawned bright and consisted of a free practice and 1st qualifying for both the 1000 and 600 Superstock classes. The 1000’s were out first and Lee was straight on the pace recording a best of 1.31.4 making him the 3rd quickest with Conor a fantastic 10th in his first BSB session on a time of 1.33.
Davy faced a huge problem in the Superstock 600 class with over 50 bikes out on the circuit trying to qualify for the 40 grid positions but he posted a really good time of 1.35.7 to go 7th quickest
1st Qualifying is the first real test of the season and I was extremely pleased with each of the riders. Lee ended up 4th quickest with Conor in 16th place having gone half a second quicker than in free practice. In the 500 junior superstock Davy was 11th quickest but struggled to get track space, complaining that someone was always in the wrong place at the wrong time t get a real fast lap in.
Conor however pulled himself up to 9th position at one stage before ending up in 12th place on the 3rd row which was a fantastic achievement in his first qualifying session.
Final qualifying for the 600 class was a different story as just before they went out the heavens opened and it poured with rain. Rather than waste the session Davy went out on his wet bike to try and get a good wet set up which he achieved climbing to 7th fastest but obviously slower than Friday’s qualifying time to keep him in 11th place and on the 3rd row for the race.
Sunday.....As we awoke on Sunday we just couldn’t believe our eyes, SNOW and just MORE SNOW!!
The temperature difference from Friday to Sunday was unbelievable. Unfortunately the meeting was abandoned around lunchtime with the date being set of 10th and 11th of May for the re-run of the race. Grid positions will be as set this weekend at Brands with free practice on the Saturday. For those of you who decided to try and come along there was much disappointment but we look forward to seeing you all again during the season.
