The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship returns to Scotland this weekend (17-19 June) and ahead of the Knockhill round some of the leading title contenders visited the famous Forth Road Bridge to meet with the Lothian and Borders Police to promote Scotland's first National motorcycle safety campaign, 'Around the Corner'.

Championship leader Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Samsung Crescent Racing Suzuki's John Hopkins were joined by Tommy Hill, Josh Brookes and Jake Zemke, who makes his BSB debut with WFR Honda this weekend to meet representatives from the force. This weekend thousands of bikers will cross the Forth Road Bridge travelling to Knockhill and both the riders and police are encouraging safer riding this weekend.


Lothian and Borders Police Road Safety Co-ordinator Sandy Allan said:

"Knockhill and BSB have for a number of years been great supporters of motorcycle safety. The BSB weekend is a huge event in Scotland attracting bikers from across the country and we are delighted to be there promoting Around the Corner - Scotland's first National motorcycle safety campaign. The campaign is all about encouraging safe riding, improving riders' skills and giving firsthand knowledge of Scotland's great biker roads. Our Police Motorcyclists are throughout the season out and about speaking to bikers, passing on tips and information which can also be found on our dedicated website - devised for Bikers by Bikers.

Head of Lothian and Borders Police Motorcycle Section Inspector John Beresford concluded:

"We are looking forward to meeting the thousands of bikers visiting Knockhill for BSB. There is a real thrill in watching bikes race on the track which are closely related to the ones the spectators ride home. That of course is where the similarity ends; the road is not, and never can be a race track. I would therefore appeal to fans not to get carried away with the occasion and to be careful as they make their way to and from the circuit. Have a great weekend, but please be careful. We want everyone to go home safe and for all of their memories to be positive and happy ones."
