Dunlop Dominates Dundrod 2012

McAdoo Racing rider Michael Dunlop dominated the 2012 Ulster GP winning 3 of the 6 feature races – and slipping off probably on way to winning another. All this despite intense pain from two slipped discs in his back!!

Maverick continued his terrific 2012 form by winning the opening Superbike race on Thursday and followed that up by winning the opening race on Saturday – the Superstock event. Having qualified the Kawasaki ZX-10R on pole position, Michael rode a terrific race calmly picking off rider by rider to take the lead with two laps to go and winning comfortably from Lougher and Martin.

The two Supersport races were a different story as the Ard Na Mara/McAdoo Racing R6 Yamaha was well down on power and Michael decided not to push too hard in the 600 races to save himself and his back injury. He did push hard in Superbike race two though – recovering from a bad start to fight his way to the front on the Hunts/McAdoo Honda Fireblade. Running as low as 6th place in the early stages, Michael showed no-one could match his pace as he passed rider by rider eventually catching race leader Guy Martin with two laps to go. A pass to take the race lead soon followed but Guy Martin was desperate to cling on to Michael knowing he couldn’t live with Maverick all week and made a couple of moves which eventually ended with Michael losing the front into the hairpin and slipping off.

A real shame as Michael was 100% confident he could win the race – and the final race of the meeting proved his point. Superbike race three was another cracker and Michael stamped his authority over the opposition winning from Guy Martin again on the factory TAS Suzuki. The only rider to win more than one race on Saturday – Michael really showed his class at Dundrod and emphasized why he’s regarded and the world’s best road racer – at just 24 years of age.
