Bring Back Geoff
Geoff is well missed as TT anchor man, where did they find Charlie boy? think he would be well suited to commentating on cricket.
Whats your thoughts??

Re: Bring Back Geoff
The good Charlie sounds altogether too much like Neil Hanson to me, and the mental picture quite spoils the whole thing.

Re: Bring Back Geoff
Geoff has a very extensive knowledge of all aspects of the TT Races and the wider motorcycling world, is an experienced broadcaster, and there is no sensible argument that says that the commentaries are better without him.
The people who manage Radio TT, who shall remain nameless here to protect the guilty,(who have been in their jobs for 5 minutes, are not Manx), and can have only a basic knowledge of the TT, wanted him out, for their own bizarre reasons, and cooked up this tale about his role as CPO and anchor man being incompatible.
We are all losers in this. Geoff has lost his job, the commentary is much poorer, (although I feel that Maurice Mawdsley is doing his best to hold it together and fill in for the inadequacies of the anchor man) and the Radio TT management will hopefully be held accountable at some point for their woeful judgement.
To be fair, Mr Lambert has shown himself to be a competent and highly professional broadcaster, who is doing his best, but in a very specialised job, he has not been 'on the pace' - he didn't realise John McGuinesss had set a new out right lap record on Saturday, until long after he'd read the time and speed out. Geoff (or for that matter Peter Kneale) would have seen that coming when he passed Cronk-ny-mona !!
Hopefully, between now and the MGP (and certainly before the 2005 TT) a few heads will be banged together, some humble pie will be devoured, and Geoff will be back in his rightful place.

Re: Bring Back Geoff
Its right, Charlie does sound like Neil but I don't think a cricket match would be suitable, maybe the Chelsea Flower Show.
I have said before that the only way to change commentators at the TT is the same way as F1 cars, you put another voice in with Geoff (they should have done it with Peter Kneale) so that like Martin and Murray, the people get used to that voice, so when he is stand alone it is a voice we are used to, a voice that has been given invaluable pointers and experience from those that know, and not a total stranger put in a very difficult position with no idea what to do.
What do you think?
Andy Mc as nice a guy as he probably is sounds like a policeman reading out a statement in court when the riders reach Ramsey, with a bit of help maybe he'd have been better, whats wrong with Roy Moore?
My line up would have been
Geoff Cannell (Grandstand)
Maurice Mawdsley (Glen Helen)
Roy Mooore (Ramsey Hairpin)
Chris Kinley (Pits)
Any others?

Re:Is Kinley ready ?
I'm most impressed with young Kinley, who in my opinion is ready for the big seat, even though he is already great in pit lane....
When Chris starts speaking he speaks with enthusiasm and confidence...
And that is what is needed, isn't it !!!

Re:Is Kinley ready ?
Thats exactly whats needed Ian, although I still think it needs Geoff in the hot seat simply because of his knowledge and ability to fill in long delays at the drop of a hat.
But if Geoff does get back there, they need to put someone, ( milky would be great) with him so that the public become used to the new voice and that the new voice can learn from an expert, like Murray Walker and Martin Brundle, Geoff will not go on forever.
Cheers
Russ

Re:Is Kinley ready ?
Whilst I am not a big fan of Geoff's personality,I agree that his commentaries are the best, his knowledge is superb.I must, however, say that I believe Chris Kinley is much better in the pit lane.He seems to have that little extra restraint when it comes to NOT shoving a mike in a rider's helmet at the most stressful moments,ie. when trying to hurriedly make repairs during a pit stop!!!

Re:Is Kinley ready ?
Chris Kinley is doing a great job in pit lane and I think as long as Charlie boy is in the big chair we need Chris in pit lane to liase with the riders and keep us all up to speed on whats happening.( as he is doing now )Well done Chris.
