Donald on a high after four-star show
Cameron Donald rounded off the Easter weekend in superb fashion at Kirkistown, when he notched up a four-timer on his Wilson Craig Hondas.
Donald set a new lap record for the 1.51 mile Co Down circuit on his way to winning the Mayor’s Trophy for his victory in the second Irish Superbike race.
The Australian got the ball rolling with a five second victory over Mark Hanna and Jonny Buckley in the first Supersport race held on a damp track, then won the second race by over four seconds from David Haire and Buckley. In the first ISB race, Donald powered away to win by 10 seconds from Michael Pearson and Nico Mawhinney before his record breaking victory in race two.
Donald set the new official time of 55.350 seconds on the fifth lap of ten, easing to a seven-and-a-half second victory to take the Ards Borough Council Mayor’s Trophy for the second year in succession.
Donald is the early leader of the 2012 ISB Championship with the perfect score of 125 points. He said: “In the first Supersport and Superbike races I was a bit wary of the tricky conditions, but in the second outings the track was perfect and to break my own lap record by over a third of a second was a bonus.
“Overall it was the perfect weekend for Wilson and the team with five wins at Bishopscourt and another four today.”
In the Supertwins class Jamie Hamilton completed a double on the Ryan Farquhar KMR Kawasaki while 2011 Open clubman champion Nico Mawhinney won two D&GW 250GP races.
Adam McLean won the opening Moto3 125GP race, but crashed out of race two in which Percy was the winner.
Melvin Hollingsworth doubled up in yesterday’s Superbike cup races, Jason Floody and Johnny McCay were the Supersport 400cc race winners while Dylan and Derek Lynch made it five wins from five starts over the Easter weekend by racing to a comfortable double in the sidecar races.
