With less than two weeks to go, the entry list for the 53rd Tandragee 100 National Road Races is taking shape, with a truly International entry for 2013 of over 280 machines.
In the opening Open Class Peoples Race, familiar names are taking a run on the bike bikes to open the days racing, with local man and Club member Shaun Anderson on his ex TAS machine taking on Jamie Hamilton on the KMR Kawasaki, veterans Davy Morgan and Paul Cranston, and returning Italian rider, Dario Cecconi.
Race 2 is the Portadown Recycling Junior Support race with ex Clerk of the Course, RJ Woolsey debuting his KMR Supertwin machine, with another Italian visitor Davide Ansaldi on his 400 Kawasaki and a host of young, up and coming newcomers making their Road Race debuts.
The Emerald Racing Magazine Supersport race is next up, and should, as usual, make for the most exciting race of the day, with names like Shaun Anderson, Wayne Kirwan, Jamie Hamilton, Michael Pearson on the grid, close racing is guaranteed in the super competitive Supersport class for 600cc machines. This is an International field once again with entries from England, Scotland, Italy, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland and of course a strong local presence.
Race 4 is the turn of the Classic machinery in the 21st Century Backcare event, with RJ Woolsey going for the Irish Championship again on his trusty Suzuki 250cc, but a large entry of UK visitors will certainly spice up the Classic action.
Modern machinery takes to the road next in the City Autos 125cc/Grouchos Café Bar 400cc/Warde Groupage 450cc race, the dwindling numbers of 125cc two strokes contai9n some familiar names with veteran Mick Chatterton from Barnsley, and Paul Robinson keeping the faith with the screaming 125’s, in the 400 class Ben Cole, Paul Maguire, and of course Yvonne Montgomery are in the mix, and in the 450 singles, only three machines take the grid, which is a shame for the ultra cheap machinery.
Race 6 is the Tandragee Centra Senior Support race, dominated by 600cc machinery with 9 newcomers out of 22 starters in this class, it is impossible to predict a winner.
Race 7, the Tayto NI Supertwins and the Sally McNally’s 250GP race, the Supertwins contains a host of names capable of winning this popular class with Darren Gilpin, Jamie Hamilton, Michael Perason, RJ Woolsey, and Shaun Anderson debuting his new Supertwin machine, this will be a corker of a race. The 250 two strokes, run concurrently, with only 8 entries, it’s hard to see past Paul Robinson Brian Mateer or Sam Wilson for the win.
Race 8 is the Around a Pound Tandragee 100 feature race, the winner should come from the familiar names of Michael Pearson, Jamie Hamilton, Shaun Anderson, but over the longer race distance on the bigger bikes, anything can happen.
In the Parade laps that start the event on Saturday morning, the Club has secured the appearance of ex World Champion Rhodesian/Zimbabwean Jim Redmond, who will be on hand all day to sign copies of his autobiography as well as riding during the demonstration parade laps.
Racing will begin at 1100 on Saturday 4th May, so get there early to secure a safe viewing spot and remember, the marshal’s are there for your own safety so please help them to help you and remember to buy a programme to support the Club and enable the race to continue.
