Robert and Joey Dunlop at the Isle of Man TT in 2000 - Joey's final ever appearance at the iconic road race
The world premiere of a new film documentary about Northern Ireland’s legendary Dunlop family will open the annual Belfast Film Festival on March 27.
Road, produced by DoubleBand Films and narrated by Hollywood superstar Liam Neeson, tells the story of the incredible careers of Joey and Robert Dunlop and focuses on the current racing exploits of Robert’s sons William and Michael.
The 102-minute film pays homage to road racing and its quiet local heroes, featuring spectacular action, candid race day scenes and a gripping narrative by the inimitable Neeson.
Written, produced and directed by Diarmuid Lavery and Michael Hewitt, Road is a dramatic recounting of two generations of the same family forever associated with great loss and remarkable success.
“Over the last 25 years local company DoubleBand have produced an amazing body of work,” said Festival Director Michele Devlin.
“We are delighted that their new film Road will be premiering at this year’s Belfast Film Festival.
“This film is destined for international success; intense interest in the sport and the legendary Dunlop family guarantee it will be a surefire hit with both local and global audiences.
“Road skilfully captures the visceral excitement of the sport and sensitively depicts the tragedies and triumphs experienced by the families.”
The world premiere of the film will take place at the Moviehouse Cinema, Dublin Road, on March 27 (7.15pm) and raises the curtain on the ten-day Belfast Film Festival, which runs until April 5.
