MARTIN JOINS ELITE 132MPH CLUB AT THE TT

Guy Martin closed his 2015 Isle of Man TT campaign with Tyco BMW by finishing fourth in Friday’s record breaking blue riband Senior TT, which saw the Lincolnshire man join the superb elite 132mph club, and set a new sector time record.

The restarted Senior TT was reduced to just four laps and on the second lap, pitting for fuel, Guy posted the second quickest ever time recorded at the Isle of Man TT with a lap of 132.398mph, just two seconds slower than race winner and new outright lap record holder John McGuinness.

Such was the pace in the perfect conditions, Guy’s lap time was slightly bettered by two of his rivals thereafter, but the ‘TT 132mph Club’ now only includes five riders, leaving the Tyco BMW man and his S1000RR as the fourth fastest rider and machine combination around the Mountain Circuit.

Guy said afterwards:

“I was with Hutchy on the road and thought he was challenging for the win, which possibly cost me a good shot at third place, as I didn’t want to start dicing with him and messing up his race. But no excuses, we were beaten on the day by the better man, but my bike was just mint. There are places we could improve of course, but from Ramsey to the start-finish – there wasn’t a better bike on the circuit.”

Team manager Philip Neill added:

“This was our first year together with BMW Motorrad and overall it has been a very enjoyable TT for everyone involved with Tyco BMW. We have a lot of positives to take from this year’s event. Of course our thoughts are with William as he recovers from an accident during a practice lap, after he had earlier recorded a solid fifth place in Sunday’s Superbike race. Thankfully his injuries are minor and he should be ready to return in a few weeks.

“Guy once again showed his ability by recording a fantastic lap of 132.398mph. Fourth position isn’t what we came here for, but Guy and his team gave everything they had. After losing a lot of time on the first half of lap one Guy simply left himself with too much work to do to step onto the podium. Fair play however to John, James and Ian as they really were setting an incredible pace in the Senior. Thanks to everyone who supported us once again and to the event organisers for one of the best TTs for some time.”
