Sheils on Pole for KDM Hire Cookstown 100

Dublin rider, Derek Sheils set the fastest lap in the Superbike qualifying on the Cookstown/B.E.Racing Suzuki to put himself in pole position for to morrows Open and KDM Hire Cookstown100 road races. With almost a second in hand, Sheils leads an all Southern Centre front row, with be NW Racings BMW Mounted Derek McGee and MJR Racings Michael Sweeney on his Kawasaki. 

Having his first road race outing since Macau last year, Tramores Brian McCormack out the TAG/VTL Honda in 4thspot just ahead of William Dunlop on the MSS/CD Racing Kawasaki. 

Competing the top six is exciting newcomer, Malachi Mitchell Thomas on the second of the CookstownB.E.Racing suzukis. 

Winner on his Cookstown 100 debut in 2014, Manx man Dan Kneen on board the Mar Train R1M Yamaha has qualified in 7th place, 

Behind Kneen was the best of the 600 runners , Cookstowns  Dean Campbell on his 600 Kawasaki.   

Topping the 600 supersport leaderboard is former British Championship 125 runner, Paul Jordan. On board the B&W Racing Honda, Jordan shocked the front runners with the quickest lap in the opening session. Hot on his heels is Derek McGee on the McGee Racing Yamaha,with Martrains Dan Kneen in third spot. 

With a few more laps under his belt, Malachi Mitchell Thomas on the Cookstown/B.E Racing honda took 4th spot ahead of hot favourite William Dunlop on the CD/IC Racing Yamaha. 

Late entry James Cowton is next up in 5th ahead of Czech visitor, Michael Dukopil. 

Dukopil topped the Supertwins practice just ahead of top 600 runner, Paul Jordan, with whizz kid Malachi Mitchell Thomas hot on their heels in third spot. 

Derek Sheils made his presence felt in only his second outing on a Supertwin, taking 4th spot on the grid from Cowton and Sweeney. 

8th in the Supertwin practice was Adam McLean, who tops the Moto 3 class from Paul Jordan and Nigel Moore. The Joeys Bar Team riders Sam Wilson and Derek McGee are 4th and 5th respectively with Paul Robinson competing the top six on the PS Racing honda. Despite highsiding  out of the action, classic exponent Jamie O Brein qualified in 7th just ahead of newcomer Gary Dunlop. 

Winner at Tandragee, James Chawke on the McKinstry racing Kawasaki heads the Junior Support class from Brad Vicars. In a surprize third spot is Popular Czech visitor Veronika Hancokvy with Cork rider Paul Hurley in 4th. Former manx grand winner, Alaistair  Haworth was the best of the 400 runners  ahead of Scott Miller and Paul ORourke. 

Southern Centre riders again topped the senior support class with John Horgan on pole from Michael Weldon and Last years 400 support champion Brian Coomey.. Welsh newcomer Paul Williams occupies 4th on the grid ahead of William Hara and Gary O Brein. 

Barry Davison topped both the 350 and 500 Classic practices on the Team Gimbert and Dempster Hondas. Mark Johnson lines up in second spot, albeit 4 seconds adrift with newcomer George Stinson taking third spot in the 350 class. 

Despite hailstones falling on parts of the circuit, manx man Allan Brew qualified 2nd best in the 500 class on his 500 seeley ahead of Ed Manly and John Leigh ,Pemberton. 

Richard Ford heads the 1000cc class from Jamie OBrein and Trevor Stewart. 

Philip Shaw continues his dominance in the 250class, taking yet another pole poisition from Gary Hutton and Thomas Hogg.   

To days practices saw a few red flag incidents, Thankfully no injuries, The weather held off very well, with a couple of showers. The days proceedings were called to a halt at half seven by the Clerk of the Course Francis Everard , as the  low Sun on the rear section of the circuit was proving to be a danger to competitors. 

Roads close Saturday morning at 10.00am, with two practice sessions before the start of the days racing. 

The weather forecast is looking good, and large crowds are expected, so the message is, Get their early!
