James Ellison ended the opening free practice sessions at Brands Hatch fastest for the McAMS Yamaha team; heading off defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne by 0.098s ahead of tomorrow’s Datatag Qualifying session.

Another frantic session on the 1.2-mile Indy circuit began with Byrne leading the way from Leon Haslam, Christian Iddon, Luke Mossey, Ellison and Michael Laverty, but John Hopkins was climbing the order and the American pushed his way into P2.

Mossey then hit the top spot on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki; as Byrne and Haslam dropped to third and fourth respectively as the times continued to switch throughout the session.

Ellison was gunning for the top though after setting the fastest ever lap time of Brands Hatch this morning and the McAMS Yamaha rider was able to surge ahead of Byrne and Mossey with Haslam holding fourth.

Christian Iddon was the sole Tyco BMW in the session in fifth as Davide Giugliano sat out the afternoon following his crash earlier today. Bradley Ray was the leading Suzuki contender in Bradley Ray sixth ahead of Dan Linfoot, Josh Brookes and Sylvain Guintoli. Hopkins completed the top ten.
