Glenn Irwin saved his best until last in the final Bennetts British Superbike Championship free practice session in damp conditions at Silverstone this morning, to edge out standings leader Leon Haslam by 0.168s ahead of Datatag Qualifying and race one this afternoon.
Jake Dixon held third place as Irwin improved in the final minutes to hit the top of the times with Honda Racing’s Jason O'Halloran, who starts his 100th race today, finished fourth fastest as he aims for a Showdown spot.
Christian Iddon was fifth fastest for Tyco BMW; he heads into the opening race 15 points adrift of Peter Hickman who holds sixth in the standings for Smiths Racing BMW. He ended the session 18th on the timesheets.
Michael Laverty held sixth place for Tyco BMW; just 0.001s ahead of Josh Brookes on the leading McAMS Yamaha as he held off team-mate Tarran Mackenzie and Andrew Irwin on the second Be Wiser Ducati. Richard Cooper completed the top ten for Buildbase Suzuki, with his team-mate and Showdown contender Bradley Ray in 19th.
