Every manufacturer sits inside the top 10 at midday, with Marc Marquez under the best race lap after four months off

For the first time in four months, the entire MotoGP™ class field was on track at the same time as the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto hosts Wednesday’s all-important test sessions ahead of the Gran Premio Red Bull de España.

And MotoGP™ was back with a bang in the 90-minute morning session, with the top 15 riders covered by one second. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) came out the blocks quickest to set a 1:37.941, just over a tenth quicker than he went in last year’s race – impressive to say the least. Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) were two tenths adrift from the number 93, with Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’s Aleix Espargaro making it four different manufacturers in the top four in the morning.

The riders will be heading out for another hour and a half on their thoroughbred prototypes before the real action begins on Friday morning. It’s an important day for riders and teams to get reacquainted with their bikes.

In the Moto2™ class, Tom Lüthi (Liqui Moly Intact GP) topped the opening session with a best time of 1:42.422 which saw him lead Luca Marini (SKY Racing Team VR46) by less than a tenth. Sam Lowes was 0.175 off in P3 on board his EG 0,0 Marc VDS Kalex as the British rider returns to action fully fit, following the shoulder injury that saw him miss the Qatar GP.

The Moto3™ riders have also been putting in the laps on Wednesday morning, and it was second place finisher in Qatar John McPhee (Petronas Sprinta Racing) who topped the times. Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) and Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corse) were the only riders to get within half a second of the Scotsman.

It’s also time for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup to back in the swing of things too as the electric class gets ready for its sophomore year. In their opening session of the day, rookie Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) led the way from Xavier Simeon (LCR E-Team) and reigning Cup winner Matteo Ferrari (Trentino Gresini MotoE).
