Joey's statue
Hi all,
I had the pleasure of visiting ex TT racer, Alan Burt today. I showed him the pic of myself taken a couple of years ago with the statue of Joey on board his bike. The first thing Alan asked was....what bike is it..... He could have at least said...Gee, great pic of you Jan. lol. So, can someone let me know which particular bike was modelled for the statue.
Thanks in advance.
p.s. Been a bad day today and my memory is a bit fuzzy but I think Alan said he raced in either NW200 or Ulster.....or maybe even both. Perhaps Bill Snelling or Larry may have the answer. Ta

RE: Joey's statue
Allen Burt rode the 1959 Junior Ulster GP, we have one shot of him from that meet. He also rode the Junior and Senior TT in 1958.
Perhaps Larry knows of a NW200 database?

The bike that was used as a model for the Joey statue was/is a SP1 V twin Honda thingy that Joey rode in 2000 at the TT winning the TTF1

Thanks so much for the replies guys. Now, Bill, may I ask where I can see any pics of Alan. I am coming to the Laxey exhibition during the Manx so maybe I'll catch up with you then.

Allen was riding in Ireland as early as 1955, Jan, and he was in the Island that year although I'm not sure if he was entered.

There is no NW200 database, Bill, but research is being put in hand - give me a day or two!!!

Let's see what I can find . . . . . . .

Allen is only listed riding in the Island in 1958. It took me 18 years after my first Island visit to ride here - it was a bit misty that day wasn't it Larry!
Jan.
Give me a ring (862238) when you are on the Island, we won't have bikes at the exhibition so it may be unmanned we are only a few hundred yards down the road.

RE: Joey's statue
Nastiest, coldest, wettest race I ever rode, Bill.

Thank God it was shortened to 3 laps!!!!

Mind you, that was still 113 miles . . . . . . . .

I think you'll find your Allen Burt Ulster photo is from 1958, not '59.

?No 64 on 350 AJS or No 67 500 G45 Matchless?

Retired in both races.

As you said, finished both TT races, and had finished 15th in the North West 350 also that year.

Didn't come back in '59 - wasn't entered.

Rode North West back in 1955 (4th in the 350 on a 7R AJS). Practiced in the TT (Junior & Senior entries) but fell off in practice and started neither.

Went home and didn't return to Europe until 1958.

Jan and Bill - I'm E-mailing a few more details to you
both.

Thanks Bill, I remember you gave me your address when we briefly met at the website get together in 2006. Will look forward to it. Yes, Alan went to Ireland with Bob Brown in 1955 after buying bikes in England, Bob got a second and Alan fourth in the 350 but I couldn't remember which track he said but he definately said he came fourth. It was this year that he had that terrible crash at Ramsey at the TT on the 7R and ended up in Nobles for many many months. He then returned to the TT in 1958.
