SPLITLATH REDMOND RACING CONFIRMS INTERNATIONAL LINE UP FOR 2013 ISLE OF MAN TT RACES FUELLED BY MONSTER ENERGY
Former British Superbike Championship team Splitlath Redmond Racing has confirmed that it will be contesting the 2013 Isle of Man TT Races, fuelled by Monster Energy, with an International line up comprising American Mark Miller and Cheung Wai On, the first ethnic Chinese rider to compete on the TT Mountain Course.
It will be the third year the team, owned jointly by John Dimbylow and former Olympic athlete Derek Redmond, has competed on the Island with Miller riding for them every time. The 38-year old has picked up two bronze replicas on the Italian Aprilia machines to date, lapping in excess of 121mph, and will be looking to make further progress this time around.
Californian Miller, who is the fastest American in the history of the event with a lap of 125.507mph, has become a formidable competitor since his debut in 2006, picking up 17 replicas in total and taking victory in the 2010 TT Zero Race. He lines up in the Dainese Superbike, Royal London 360° Superstock and Pokerstars Senior TT Races.
Miller's team-mate will be Chinese rider Wai On who will make his TT debut for the team, contesting the 1000cc classes on another RSV-4 Aprilia machine and the 3-lap Lightweight TT Race on an ER6 Kawasaki. The 31-year old is no stranger to racing in Europe having raced in the 125cc class in Britain in 2000 before contesting the Australian Championships for a number of seasons and recently visited the Isle of Man to familiarise himself with the course, receiving tuition from TT rider liaison offiers Richard Quayle and John Barton.
He wildcarded in a number of 125cc Grands Prix in 2005 before switching to the Supersport division where he has since finished in the top six at the Macau Grand Prix every year between 2006 and 2009. Wai On progressed onto the Superbikes in 2011 finishing 3rd in the Chinese Superbike Championship.
Paul Phillips, TT and Motorsport Manager, Isle of Man Government, commented:
"Splitlath Redmond Racing is definitely one of the more colourful teams at the TT Races. They have a hugely positive attitude to racing and are definitely making their mark in the TT paddock. I'm delighted that they have again made a major commitment to the TT Races and they have two riders at differing stages of their TT career who will both be looking to perform well for their fans in their home countries and on the Island."
John Dimbylow, Team Owner, Splitlath Redmond commented:
"Although we have scaled back our racing commitments in 2013 the TT is an event that we have to be involved with. The event continues to go from strength to strength and I'm sure that our team's international profile will help grow interest worldwide. We have two riders with a great international pedigree and it's definitely going to be an interesting team garage in 2013."
