Westmoreland gunning for Brookes in final Showdown

James Westmoreland is aiming to secure BMW's highest place finish in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship following the final triple-header round of the season at Brands Hatch next weekend (18/19/20 October) as he bids to outgun Josh Brookes for fourth in the standings.

Westmoreland and the Buildbase BMW team have had their strongest campaign in recent seasons, securing a position inside the top six in the Showdown for the first time and bidding to edge closer to BMW's first podium finish. Westmoreland lies fifth in the standings ahead of Brands Hatch, but is just 12 points adrift of Tyco Suzuki's Brookes ahead of him and he is ready to hunt down the Australian in the three races next weekend.

Westmoreland said:

"Brands Hatch was a good round for us last time we were there and I am really looking forward to going back. It is a big round for everyone, because although we are a bit outside of the fight for the title, there is still all to play for in terms of results in the three races. For us we are still in contention to take fourth in the standings if we can beat Josh which would be BMW's best result at the end of a season so that really is our goal coming into the weekend.

"Yes the first two Showdown rounds haven't produced our best results, but we are going back to a track where we had one of our best rounds earlier in the season. It's hard to pinpoint what was the cause of that at Silverstone but I am definitely not concerned by it and we are looking at Brands Hatch as three individual races because anything can still happen in the Showdown."
