The outfit which Yer Maun wore as he won his 23rd TT looks set to fetch up to £20,000 when it goes up for auction.

The Arai helmet with the TT hero’s yellow and black design, black Manx leathers, Kevlar gauntlets and blue, grey and black boots feature on the statue of Joey Dunlop at 'The Bungalow' on the Mountain.

The sale, held by Graham Budd Auctions at Sotheby's in London, takes place on Monday, November 4.

Joey Dunlop's TT winning outfit makes £13,000 at auction

An outfit worn by the most successful rider in Isle of Man TT history, Joey Dunlop, has been sold for £13,000 at Sotherby's in London.

The Northern Irish rider wore the leathers, boots, gloves and trademark yellow helmet during his 23rd TT victory in the 1998 Lightweight race.

Dunlop died while racing in Estonia in July 2000 just weeks after completing a hat-trick of wins on the Isle of Man.

In a remarkable career the Ballymoney man claimed 26 TT wins.

His tally is six higher than Morecambe's John McGuinness, who is still racing and won this year's Senior event.

Dunlop's brother Robert, who died in 2008, claimed five TT victories and at this year's event his nephew Michael won four solo victories, taking his tally to seven.

A spokesman for Sotherby's said it was "incredibly rare" to see a complete outfit worn by the "sporting great".

The outfit which was used to model a statue of the TT star, which now stands at the Bungalow on the Isle of Man TT course, had a pre-sale estimate of £15,000 to £20,000.

It was sold by Graham Budd Auctions at Sotheby's New Bond Street in London on Monday.
