Mar-Train Racing opts out of 2015 British Supersport Championship
Northern Ireland’s Mar-Train Racing team has confirmed it will take a sabbatical from the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship in 2015.
The Temple-based outfit lifted the British title for the first time in 2013 with Scottish rider Stuart Easton and has chalked up six wins this season with Carrick man Alastair Seeley in the saddle.
However, a statement issued by the team said it would concentrate on ‘other projects’ next year.
Mar-Train Racing could step up its involvement at the international national road races as a result and this season ran Bradford prospect Dean Harrison at some of the major roads meetings in the Supersport class, who excelled in particular at the Isle of Man TT and Southern 100.
The full statement issued by Mar-Train Racing on Friday morning said:
“Mar-Train Racing has enjoyed three consecutive seasons in British Supersport, with championship success coming our way in 2013, but we have decided to take a sabbatical from the series in 2015 to concentrate on other projects.
“The decision in no way reflects on the strength or quality of the aforementioned British series, and Mar-Train Racing will give every effort to try and retain the title with Alastair Seeley in the remaining four races this year.
“In just three seasons, Mar-Train Racing has taken 41 British Supersport Championship podiums, 22 race wins; not to mention numerous lap records, pole positions and plenty of drama on the way to finishing second in our debut season [2012] with Irishman Jack Kennedy.
“We also have great memories from 2013 when we won a nail-biting finale on the final day at Brands Hatch to take the British Supersport title with Stuart Easton on the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha R6.
“This season double British champion Alastair Seeley has done the team proud with six wins from his nine podiums to date, and as previously mentioned, despite a 55-point deficit, retaining the title is still mathematically possible and we will give it our best shot.
“Mar-Train Racing would like to thank everyone for their support, including Yamaha Motor UK, for assisting with a terrific motorcycle in the iconic Yamaha R6.
“We will endeavour to bring the majority of our partners with us in 2015. But with the Japanese manufacturer concentrating its efforts, both in terms of budget and development, on its all-new 1000cc machine to be launched early next year – it made our decision that little bit easier to take a break from British championship competition.
“An announcement will be made in due course on our racing schedule for 2015.”
