Chaz Davies, Aruba.it Racing-Ducati Superbike Team, Sepang FP2
Rain between sessions prevents any overall improvements.
A wet start to FP2 saw many WorldSBK riders electing to remain in the box, hoping that the heat would dry the 5.543km circuit in time for a fast lap at the end of the second 45 minute session of the weekend.
Overall, Max Biaggi making his second wildcard appearance of the year will lead the field into tomorrow’s FP3, a session that will be important given the weather this afternoon.
The rain had actually stopped by the time the WorldSBK session began but it wasn’t until the final 13 minutes that there was more or less a completely dry circuit.
Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) joined the session with 9 minutes to go immediately moving into the top 3 of the afternoon session, while only Biaggi of the other front runners from FP1 ventured onto the circuit.
It worth pointing out that in the damp conditions it was eventually Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) who came out on top in a time of 2.11.300s ahead of two fellow Brits Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) and Leon Haslam who remained 3rd despite improving significantly as the track dried rapidly.
Leandro Mercado looked confident on the Barni Racing Ducati in 4th ahead of Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda) and Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia) making it 5 manufacturers in the top 6 in mixed conditions.
Behind Biaggi on overall times Davies remains second ahead of the Kawasaki Racing Team pairing of Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes with Leon Haslam and Jordi Torres completing the top 6.
As it stands Lowes, Randy de Puniet (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki), Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) and van der Mark would make it through to Superpole 2 automatically.
FP3 is scheduled to take place at 9.45am local time providing what should be an action packed on track encounter.
