A nasty looking accident in Laxey was reported last night and also a landslip on the Mountain Road both apparently due to the recent heavy rain. Do any forum members on the Island know the location and extent of the damage both in Laxey and on the Mountain Course?
For those with Twitter or Facebook there were images uploaded by the IOM Constabulary. Old Laxey (the bridge collapsed, there was a bus upside down in the hole!), the Mountain Mile had a landslide and resembled a field, Laurel Bank and Parliament Square were under water.
Hoping nobody was injured and that damage isn't too severe once flooding subsides.
Dad said he'd never seen anything like it happen so quickly in 70 odd years, he left Peel and driving back towards Douglas there was lots of water coming out of and over the hedges, walls and driveways, apparently there was a high tide at the same time so the river waters couldn't escape and backed up
Just spoken to a friend and she tells me her workmates had to be pulled from their car windows at Tromode when their car park flooded very quickly and the cars were swamped as the water came over the wall.
Our workshop in Foxdale went from having a bit of a puddle on the floor to knee deep in about 60 seconds. Been based there since 1991, flooded in 2003, 2008, 2010 and 2015. Something is definitely on the change.
This one was definitely the worst ever seen as it affected most of the Island, whereas the previous one hit our area harder, our offices were flooded but the rest of the island got away with it. This time the water was lapping at our office door, luckily our office is slightly higher than the shop floor.
Interesting one with the bus in Laxey though, I am fairly certain there was a weight limit on that bridge, if that is the case then surely the driver is responsible.
