Former double 125 world champion, Swedish rider, Kent Andersson, passed away earlier this week, i remember him racing at the UGP, along with Kel Carruthers and Rod Gould.and in recent years, he returned to the prix for the parade laps.

Ade i rember Kent never seen him race but remember him racinfg in the earl 70s on the 125s , had a good book which covered 72 to 74 & he was well to the fore . Along with many good riders from that era & i have ultimete respect for him RIP< Kent

I remember him racing, very clearly.
Its not that people dont g.a.f., it IS, I am afraid, an age thing.
Quite often, my colleagues at work (mostly my own younger staff) talk about "some old guy" who has passed away. Somebody that I knew and loved as a rock legend!
Nobody g.a.f. when Syd Barret passed away recently.
You see? WHO?

For those who were lucky to have see these great men in their pomp, DO
g.a.f. and count ourselves very lucky.

how many postings were there about terry crane at this years manx? i don't think it's an age thing, i think it's apathy. if they aren't a household name, then who bloody cares? nobody but friends and relatives and the odd few that actually do care. i'm starting to ramble so i'm off :wink:

Sorry 'ade' I'm with MV on this one....It is an age thing. I remember Kent well always a front runner in the GP's etc. "of his time"

but....the majority of members on this, and other sites, are one, or even two, generations younger than those that saw and appreciated the class of the man. Some don't even know who 'Mike the Bike' is.

RIP Kent....you'll have plenty of good friends to meet you up there!

i'm not trying to stir things up here charlie [sorry, what was that you just said? ], but until i posted what i did, the subject of dear old kent was totally ignored, so basically my posting did its job. it got people posting and it got a few facts and figures about kent brought up to be talked about again. job done. i mean, come on, hands up all those that WERE going to post something on this thread? you see, not one to be seen
however i am sorry to report that i never knew kent or saw him racing, as i never got interested in the racing side of things till '84, and road racing until '93 [apart from aberdare and scarborough]. bit of a late starter.

I hadn't heard until you metioned it, Ade. I don't get any publications except BSN and Classic Racer, and I was on the Island, so haven't seen my BSN yet.
He was a great rider, and my thoughts are with his family.

Kent Anderson was only 64 when he died of heart trouble.
Incidentally he was the first rider to win a world championship on Michelin tyres.

I was quite taken aback yesterday while watching WSB on TV.

He talks a lot of sense on the commentaries he does
(glad somebody does!)
I did like his "Its a bit emotional, is this Jack" when Walker won in the
rain at Assen.
I was fortunate enough to see Jim start racing in his Scarborough days.
On a trail bike?

I have watched his career, in racing and beyond, ever since.
He brings a good "dollop" of Yorkshire bluntness and nouse to the
scene.

Do you remember his:

"The wifes had credit card stolen. Cost me less wen't' burglar ad it!"

Good old Jim.

But his 'ailwood comment gladdened my heart!

I remember Kent Anderson and I am sorry to hear of his passing at such a relatively young age.

If I recall, Kent raised an eyebrow or two when he entered GP racing kitted out in white leathers!

Must say this was a bit of a shock as I beleive Kent was still quite active in the motorcycle scene with Ferry Brouwer and Yamaha.
