DOES THE BAN INCLUDE THE IOM AS AN EX SMOKER I LOVE GOING IN PUBS IN EIRE BUT WILL TT 07 BE THE LAST SMOKE FREE ONE?

Doesn't include the IOM, although they are talking about it. We have had the ban here in Scotland since March. It's great to be able to go in bars and restaurants and not cough myself inside out, and come home smelling of smoke.

Helen as an ex smoker i agree would rather smell castrol R.

Yes Its been a great success here in Scotland.

My only objection now is walking through all the palls of smoke on the pavements outside the pub where the smokers now congregate !

Even the days of a quiet cigar are drawing to a close. I suppose the open wood fire in pubs will be next to go.

"drawing to a close" - great pun indeed they always say there's nowt worse than an ex smoker, and boy, are they right? as a [small] cigar smoker, i just pray for nice weather, after all you can smoke a fag in a couple of minutes, but cigars take ages. hope they build us a nice comfy shelter like the ones in skerries.
it makes me laugh when i go in a restaurant / cafe or even a pub and there's a smoking section and a none smoking section - what is the point? have they never heard of diffusion?
my mate des once said that having a no smoking section in a pub was like having a no p*ssing section in a swimming bath

Sorry ade! didn't even notice the pun as I wrote that. But ban or no ban on the island, cigar and pipe smoke are to me very different from the horrid cigarette smoke. Just let me know if you need such a quiet comfy shelter when you are over.

Being a non-smoker, i have no problem in going to a smokers pub, providing they have a good ventilation system, to clear the smoke from the air, but i can fully understand that when the smell of smoke gets into your clothes is not very nice, especially when you walk into a smoke free zone.

Your comment reminded me of sitting on the grid in the early 70s at Oliver's Mount next to a young man who had drilled a hole in his full-face helmet to enjoy a last-minute (and highly illegal!) fag before the off........sadly we all know who he was, and what killed him.

That's the boy! It was typical of his irreverent attitude - and the surprising acceptance by (some of ) officialdom that he did things like that. The fact that he and many others died way before their time, and that I have had to have bi-lateral femoral angioplasy to allow me to walk more than 50 metres without pain, due to a pack-a-day-or-more habit that lasted until 3 years ago, only makes me cross at the duplicity of governments happily raking in a fortune in taxes from a now-recognised killer.
I also cannot be happy about racing teams taking money from manufacturers of cigarettes, thus endorsing a drug that causes pain and death. We should, and do know better these days..........

At least you are able to admit that smoking does you no good, and for most smokers,they will always say they know a relative who lived to be 99 and smoked 100 a day.They are the lucky ones.Smokers do not realise that they stink and they are VERY fortunate to live decent,healthy lives if they persist in their habit.OK, so motorcycle racing is dangerous,but we do not endanger the lives of those breathing in the same air.I am all for people doing what they wish, as long as they don't interfere with others.Why should the tobacco companies be permitted to keep raking in the cash? Nobody feels sorry for the man in the street when his employers go bust, they don't get subsidised by the government, so why should the tobacco companies?

I often wondered about the 40% alchol or 100% proof limit on whiskey.

Apparently it's because at concentrations higher than that it becomes an irritant to the stomach - so you're more likley to hurl.

Obviously the commited drinker may have a higher tolerance.

Sorry Ade ,please don't take offence,it's nothing personal, just my own feelings.We all should be allowed a choice,as you say, but the discomforts to others,for whatever reason,should be minimised. On a more personal note, how are you these days, after that horrendous accident?
