I loved this film. Shows the real meaning behind determination in the face of all those trying to stop you , ignoring them and cracking on just the same, all for the love of something that seems to drive you on from the inside ..... does this sound familiar?

It was screened this week on Oz TV too. Can you believe that Bert returned to the USA 9 times after he broke the record. This record for machines under 1000cc of 201 point something (I think) MPH still stands today. I just loved the method he used to mow his lawns. Excellent movie and I know a few of us on the forum have seen it and agree.

There was a little poetic licence in the movie his record which still stand is actually 183.586mph set in 1967

The burt and kiwi way, look at Bruce Anstey, Robert Holden etc

For a small country you have certainly produced some excellent riders, going back to the Rod Coleman era. Graeme Crosby was very popular in Oz and I know folk from England used to go to the TT especially to watch him.
Good speedway riders too, Shaun. Ivan Mauger, Ronnie Moore and Barry Briggs.

Rod Coleman and my dad grew up in the same town, and used to do a lot of riding together, Rod is very friendly to me due to this.

I've got this on DVD & watched a few times!
Best film I've seen for ages; Not just because its 'autosport' theme.
But for that truly down to earth character played by Anthony Hopkins, & it's humour, his determination to fulfill his dream despite his age & health at that time. As well as it being mostly fact!
To get many people to 'break so many rules' on those occassions before even getting the 'chance' to break the speed record; That Burt Munro must have been truly likable character nice to have met! Avoiding the lemons though?! Lol

I have heard there is also a book about Burt Monroe , Does anybody know the title and where to buy a copy

probably the best book on burt munro is by my late friend george begg,he first met bert in 1951 and lived in invercargill.not sure where you can get a copy.george raced in the manx in 1955 and went on to build some great racing cars in new zealand.oh and he married a manx girl from ballaugh if that helps!

Agreed, I love this film for his never say die attitude and determination!

How long before somebody does a classic period film on one of our TT heroes such as Stanley Woods, Geoff Duke etc?
There are hundreds of anecdotes which could be incorporated into a truly inspirational film from those days!
