Haslam injured at Phillip Island test

Leon Haslam has become the latest to join a list of injured riders after crashing during the opening day of the official World Superbike test at Phillip Island.

The BMW Motorrad rider went down at the final left-hander, Swan Corner, during the morning session. After being unable to stand immediately the Briton was taken to hospital.

Initial checks revealed that he suffered a fractured bone in his heel, however further diagnosis showed a fractured tibia in his right leg which may rule him out of Sunday's race. Haslam is considering getting a screw put in, with hopes he will be fit for the race this weekend.

In a post on Twitter, he said: “Not a good day - big high-side at the last turn. Still in hospital waiting to see when they can operate. May need a screw in the tibia.”

Haslam's injury follows the hand injuries of John Hopkins, Eugene Laverty and David Salom, all sustained in crashes during testing at Phillip Island last week.
