Race Results



Overcast and damp conditions greeted riders as practice began, followed by qualifying before the first of six races got underway at 1.00pm.

The first leg of the Syd Barnett Trophy for 350cc Classic machines combined with the first leg of the Red Rose Trophy for 250cc Classic machines run over six laps saw Gary Jamison in pole position who managed to get the hole-shot into Mere Hairpin.

However it was Pete Boast who held the lead at the end of the opening lap from Jamison with Kevin Strowger third and first 250.

Strowger had moved into second overall at the completion of the second lap, as Boast increased his advantage to five seconds.

At half distance with the rain starting to fall positions remained the same except for the leader’s advantage, now up to 6.4 seconds.

The chequered flag was shown at the end of the fourth lap as the downpour increased and merged with thunder and lightening.

Peter Boast took the flag from Kevin Strowger and Gary Jamison.


Second race of the day, held in bright sunshine was once again a combined race for the Denis Parkinson Trophy for 500cc Classic machine and Modern machines up to 450cc, over eight laps.

Mark Goodings got the hole-shot just in front of James Cowton into the Hairpin. At the end of the opening lap it was Goodings by a tenth of a second from Cowton with Allister Haworth third.

A lap later Cowton had pulled out a 2 second lead over Goodings as Haworth remained in third.

By the fourth and half-distance lap Cowton had increased the lead to 11.8 seconds as the rain began to fall again.

Lap five and the sun was out again as Haworth moved into second place.
Haworth pulled a second back on the sixth lap and reduced the gap by three seconds on the seventh lap.

James Cowton took the chequered flag by 6.2 seconds from Allister Haworth with Kevin Strowger third.

Race three, for 600cc Supersport machines over eight laps. James Cowton had pole position and got the hole-shot to lead at the end of the opening lap by 1.7 seconds from Mark Goodings with James Neesom third.

Goodings pulled back 0.2 of a second at the conclusion of the second lap.

Lap three and it was Goodings in front by 0.072 of a second, then the red flags were shown.

The restart over four laps saw Cowton first into Mere Hairpin, but it was Mark Goodings in front by half a second at the end of the lap from James Cowton with Tom Weedon third one and a half seconds adrift in third.

Lap two and the gap between first and second remained at half a second.

The end of the penultimate lap the gap had doubled to one second as Weedon dropped four seconds, but remained third.

At the chequered flag it was Mark from James and Tom, the winning margin 1.011 seconds.

Race Four, another combined race for Modern Solos over 700cc and Classic Superbikes for the Geoff Barry Trophy, once again over six laps.

Mick Goodings led the field at the end of the opening lap by half a second from Jules Croft and Keith Pringle who was another half a second down.

Lap two and the gap was now 3.9 seconds, but it was Pringle who was second.

Peter Boast was the first Classic Superbike in fifth.

Half distance and the gap had increased to 5 seconds and a lap later, it was up to 7 seconds, with Boast still the leading Classic Superbike from Rodger Wibberley and Martin Harrison.

At the chequered flag it was Mick Goodings by 8.811 seconds from Keith Pringle and Jules Croft.

The Classic leader was Peter Boast from Rodger Wibberley by 2/10ths of a second with Martin Harrison third.

Race Five a six lap Solo Invitation had James Cowton on pole, but it was Mark Goodings who was first into Mere Hairpin.

At the end of the first 2.43-miles it was James Cowton by .0.8 of a second from Goodings and James Neesom a further second down.

The end the second lap Goodings was back in front by 0.3 of a second as Neesom held third.

At half distance the gap was down to 0.162 of a second as Cowton closed the advantage. In turn Neesom was dropping back, but holding third.

Lap four and James Cowton was back in front by 0.5 of a second and at the conclusion of the penultimate lap it was now James Neesom in second by 3.9 seconds with Goodings down in third another 3 seconds down on the second placeman.

At the chequered flag James Cowton from James Neesom by 5.745 seconds as Mark Goodings took third another seven seconds back.

The final race of the day was for the SuperTwins, once again over six laps.

At the end of the first lap it was David Bell from James Neesom and Mick Goodings with less than 0.2 of a second between them!

Mick Goodings took the lead at the end of the second lap by0.4 of a second as Gary Gittins slotted into third behind David Bell.

Lap three and the gap was down to 0.4 of a second between first and second, but Gittins slipped back some 11 seconds although held on to third position.

Lap four and the gap had doubled to 0.9 of a second, as Gittins slipped further back some 18 seconds down in third.

Lap five, and another half a second was added to his advantage at the front of the field. Tom Weeden moved into third – half a second ahead of Gittins, now fourth.

At the flag it was Mick Goodings by 1.333 seconds ahead of David Bell with Tom Weeden third.
