Alvaro Bautista set the pace as Friday’s third free practice session for the Iveco TT Assen took place in mixed conditions. Jorge Lorenzo remains fastest overall, but will miss qualifying after breaking his collarbone on Thursday. On this occasion, it was Repsol Honda Team’s Marc Marquez who suffered a sizeable crash.
The session started with a greasy track surface, but the racing line on the start/finish straight was completely dry by the time proceedings came to an end. Injured world champion Lorenzo is not at the circuit, having flown to Barcelona on Thursday night before being operated on during the early hours of Friday morning.
Marquez’s own high-speed crash came at Ramshoek, as the 20-year-old lost control and highsided his machine; the Spaniard walked away from the accident scene. Bautista led the way for GO&FUN Honda Gresini from Power Electronics Aspar’s Randy de Puniet, but all of the fastest combined times have come from the dry FP1.
Fourth free practice for the Iveco TT Assen, after which Qualifying will follow immediately, begins at 1:30pm local time (GMT +2).
(Marc Marquez suffered a high-speed crash at Assen’s Ramshoek curve during third free practice on Friday morning. The Repsol Honda Team rider will be able to continue, but has suffered fractures to the little finger of his right hand as well as to the big toe of his right foot).
