The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship is building for its return to Oulton Park for the second round over the Bank Holiday weekend (3/4/5 May) and this morning the official test kicked off with Shane 'Shakey' Byrne heading the times.

Byrne swapped positions at the top of the times in the early stages, however when it came to the chequered flag the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki held the top spot from his team-mate Stuart Easton who is eager to return to the podium at the Cheshire circuit next weekend.

The Quattro Plant Kawasaki in the hands of Dan Linfoot set the third fastest time to edge out the Lloyds British GBmoto Racing Kawasaki pairing in the final stages of the opening session, as James Ellison pushed ahead of Chris Walker.

Bathams BMW held sixth place with Michael Rutter ahead of Keith Farmer who split the team-mates as he targets a strong result for the PR Kawasaki team ahead of their home round next weekend. Patric Muff held eighth place with Jenny Tinmouth and Peter Baker completing the top ten.
