One member of the TT marshals’ ‘orange army’ will be rewarded with a two-night break, courtesy of the Steam Packet and the Sefton Group.

The companies have joined forces to offer a two-night break for two people, including ferry travel and accommodation, to the winner of a prize draw for marshals who volunteer their services each year for the TT.

This is the third year that the Steam Packet and Sefton Group have offered a prize to the TT Marshals’ Association as a ‘thank you’ for their commitment to the island’s most popular racing events.

Steam Packet sales development manager Brian Convery said:

‘The “orange army”, as marshals are known, provide a vital voluntary service without which the TT simply could not happen. We have worked closely with the TTMA for years, offering discounted travel when members travel to attend recruitment events and training courses in the UK and a discount to marshals who volunteer for both the TT and Festival of Motorcycling.

‘The feedback we’ve had from the previous prize draws has been fantastic, so we are more than happy to say “thank you” to the marshals by offering the holiday prize again this year.’

Nicola Wilkinson, Sefton Group marketing manager, said:

‘The marshals do such a fantastic job each year, and we are happy to support the prize again by offering two nights’ bed and breakfast at the Sefton Hotel.’

The prize draw will take place during TT Week.

TTMA Chairman Terry Holmes said:

‘On behalf of the association, and all the marshals, I’d like to thank both the Steam Packet and the Sefton Group for their generosity in providing a prize for the third year running. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by the Marshals is humbling, and prizes such as this are the island’s way of saying “thank you” to them all for their efforts.’

Marshals who attend both the TT and Festival of Motorcycling during 2014 will again have their ferry travel discounted by the Steam Packet.

The discount scheme was introduced in 2008 to support the Isle of Man TT Marshals’ Association and encourage more marshals to volunteer for both motorcycling events.

In addition to the discount, the Steam Packet assists the IOMTTMA with volunteers’ travel costs when they visit shows for promotion and recruitment drives.

Mr Holmes said:

‘The support shown over the years by the Steam Packet has been a huge help in attracting marshals to cover both festivals. For each event we need more than 500 marshals to cover the TT course – and without the marshals, the events simply could not take place.’

Mr Convery of the Steam Packet said:

‘The amount of work done by the IOMTTMA throughout the year to ensure there is enough cover for all practice and race sessions is enormous. It’s imperative each year that they continue to recruit more marshals and we are delighted to be able to assist IOMTTMA members when they travel to shows.’
