With grey clouds in the sky and the threat of some rain, the sidecar teams sat ready for the start of 21 lap Gold Race. The rain never appeared so it was a full dry race. As the lights went out it was Tim reeves and Gregory Cluze who got the whole shot into the first corner with their “The Relocator, Remse Racing, SMT” LCR Kawasaki, from the Birchall Brothers Ben and Tom with their “Mitchells of Mansfield” LCR, Suzuki, a small gap, then it was Bennie Streuer and Geert Koerts on their “Team Streuer” LCR, Suzuki, right on their tail was Uwe Gurck and Manfred Wechselberger on their “Polizei Sport Verein Wels” LCR, BMW, close behind them was Pekka Paivarinta and Timo Karttiala on their “Paivarinta-Karttiala” LCR, BMW.

Reeves and Cluze were setting a blistering pace from word go but the Birchall Brothers were right with them, the two teams had broken away from the perusing pack. By lap three the Birchalls had got passed Reeves and Cluze, but Reeves was pushing hard and stayed right on the tail of the Birchalls. Paivarinta and Karttiala had made their way up to third and gave chase to the leading teams, leaving Streuer and Koerts in fourth with Gurck and Wechselberger in fifth. Andre Kretzer and Jens Lehnertz with their “AKW-Kretzer-Racing” LCR, Suzuki were having a great battle with Jokob Rutz and Thomas Hofer on their “Sidecar Racing Team Rutz” LCR, Yamaha for the sixth place, also Mike Roscher and Anna Burkard on their “RSC Hanni Racing” LCR, BMW, were trying to fight off Petri Makkula and Harri Asumainiemi on their “Team Makkula” LCR, BMW. Lap seven saw Paivarinta and Karttiala retire from the race with possible fuel problems.

At the front the Birchall Brothers had made a good gap between them and Reeves /Cluze, Reeves and Cluze seemed to be having some problems with their machine, which let The Birchalls make a good gap, and by the closing stages of the race they had a good six seconds on Reeves and Cluze. By the time the chequred flag came out it was the Birchall Brothers Ben and Tom who crossed the line for the win with a 10 second gap to second place Reeves and Cluze, they also had the fastest lap of the race a time of 1:30.712. When Reeves and Cluze crossed the line they knew that they had won the title, they stopped at the end of pit lane and collected a No1 plate for their machine, the team were ecstatic with winning the title, and the pressure is off Reeves and Cluze going to the last round in France. Although Reeves and Cluze had won the title, Ben and Tom Birchall were delighted in winning the two races over the weekend and they were the first to congratulate Reeves and Cluze on the title. The problems that Reeves and Cluze were having during the race was the same as the first race, the gear change lever had broken again.

Crossing the line in third place was Streuer and Koerts, they managed to keep a good gap between themselves and Gurck and Wechselberger all throughout the race. Streuer said after the race “It was a good race for us, our lap times were good, and we had no problems with the machine, we will be fighting for a good result in France”. Gurck and Wechselberger crossed the line in fourth place, the team were reasonably happy with this but Gurck said “We had big tyre problems all throughout the race; the back wheel was spinning all the time and we could not get the power down.

Fifth place went to a delighted Andre Kretzer and Jens Lehnertz, they fought hard for the place, and managed to keep in front of Jakob Rutz and Thomas Hofer who crossed the line in sixth place, this is a good result for Rutz and Hofer because if they have a good race in France they could still be in for a top five in the championship. Makkula and Asumainiemi managed to overhaul Roscher and Burkard for seventh place but after the race Makkula said “we had big trouble with our gearbox, I think it is done! But we finished the race so that is good” Mike Roscher and Anna Burkhard crossed the line in eighth place, another good result for the team and it sees them in fifth place of the championship, another team who are looking for a good result at the last round in France
