Crescent Suzuki is looking forward to racing in Thailand in 2015 following Dorna and the FIM’s recent announcement welcoming the country to the Superbike World Championship calendar for the first time in the series’ history.

Scheduled to host the second round of WSBK action on 22nd March 2015, the Chang International Circuit - located in the city of Buriram, 410kms north-east of Bangkok - is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility designed to FIM specifications. Opening in October 2014 with the Buriram United Super GT race, its inaugural event attracted a weekend crowd of 131,000 spectators and the arrival of the World Superbike Championship will herald its first competition on two-wheels.

As shown by the popularity of Malaysia’s reintroduction to the WSBK calendar in June 2014, the Asian market is a vitally-important territory for the production bike industry. Forming a strong base of support for manufacturers, sponsors and the sport as a whole, Crescent Suzuki is excited by the opportunity of bringing the World Championship spectacle to the previously unrepresented region.

While the full 2015 calendar is due to be released on Tuesday 18th November, Dorna have confirmed that the 12 events held during 2014 will continue to run throughout the new season, with the possible addition of two events still to be confirmed.

Crescent Suzuki will be present at the Chang International Circuit on 22nd March, a month after the opening round of the 2015 Championship at Phillip Island, in Australia, and is due to commence its winter testing programme on Monday 24th November at Spain’s Circuito de Jerez.

Javier Alonso - Dorna WSBK Executive Director:

“We are pleased to announce the introduction of the Thai Round in the calendar, as a clear evidence of our goal to reach new key markets for the motorcycle industry. Over the last two years the World SBK has accomplished to be present within important regions, such as the USA, Malaysia, Australia and Qatar with successful events, and we keep working in this direction.”

Vito Ippolito - FIM President:

“One of the objectives of the FIM is to have races on every continent. The Asian people are very enthusiastic about motorcycling and having Thailand in the 2015 calendar is a real honour and achievement for all of us and very important for the sport!”
