If a point near Brandywell is the highest point on the TT course at 1400 ft above sea level , where geograhically is the lowest and how far above sea level is it ?

I don't know how far above sea level it is but I think the lowest point of the course is the Sulby Straight area.  From memory I think that in the days of two strokes they used to set the carburation up for the Sulby Straight and try to balance it as best they could for the mountain.

I think  Sulby Straight will be the lowest part of the course, but the coldest part, (i.e. where two strokes were most likely to seize), was Crosby Village.
It was always thought that the prevailing wind, (westerly) blew through the valley from Peel to Douglas. Thus we didn't worry much about Sulby Straight, but getting a two stroke to Greeba Castle was always a bit of a relief.

I am sure I have seen in one of the cross sectional maps of the mountain course that Parliament Square is the lowest part of the course (actually sea level)

I'd agree with that. There's a spot height of 6.4m between School House and Parliament Square. Sulby is 15 to 20m a.s.l.
Brandywell is about 425m

Lowest part of the course is 23 feet above sea level at 23.96 miles which puts that just after Parliament Square?

And on the subject of height. How much height do the riders gain on that long drag uphill from the Bungalow to Brandywell? I think you'd be surprised.

Looking at the contour lines on a Ordnance Survey map I would have thought that Parliament Square would be the closest to sea level , but am not 100% sure as the contour lines are only a guide

I agree as well. As far as I know the lowest point is close to Parliament Square.

the lowest point on the course is where the bike has gone bang on the last lap whilst winning, i would imagine

Well, that is strange. According to the OS map, it's next to nothing, as the contours run parallel to the road. Doesn't feel like it on the bike though.

Exactly! About 15 metres maximum. It depends on exactly where the Bungalow spot height is, as the road drops from the entry to the tramline crossing, but even so it far far less than I would have guessed.

About the same elevation gain as you make in about 100 yards at the Gooseneck .......................
