12 years today my Nephew lost his life.

I was the last person he spoke to, I will never forget him or that day or that year my daughter died 10 weeks later.

Terrible event, I was on the ferry, I don't know how, but half way across the water, we all knew

i was watching the dvd "tt a film documentry" just a few nights ago and couldnt believe it was 12 years ago
we all feel sad at times like this but for nick and tony and the rest of the family it must be even harder

I remember reading the announcement as clear as if it was yesterday.  Can't believe it was 12 years ago.

I still feel that watching DJ man handle the big bikes around the mountain course was about the most astonishing thing I've ever seen.  A rare talent, sadly missed.

t was my first visit to the TT, and complete in awe I ended up at the bottom of Bray Hill. As a TT vigin I was glued to the pavement as the bikes passed. I was is shock to see Lougher bottoming out and watching sparks flying of his SP2 at Bray Hill. And wasn't McGuinness that year on a Monstermob Ducati? Jefferies, I saw him passing two times, and then it all went quit. After a long time some bikes returned. A marshall started crying, and slowly the news filtered though the audience. On the way to the campsite I passed though Crosby, and I hated the whole madness of the event and questioned why I did come in the first place. That faithful Thursday, I'll remember it for the rest of my life..

RIP Big man. My favourite memory of DJ was watching him at St Ninians crossroad in 1998 on the R1, so aggressive! I am sure he tooted the horn as he went past, I seem to remember the R1 being basically a road bike that year. Such a big loss, I wonder what the lap record would be if he was still with us. Is it really 12 years ago!

Watching DJ go through the top of Barregarrow flat-out is something I will never forget. Still sadly missed.......

Never seen anybody like Dave through the top of Barregarrow, back then the edge of the tarmac on the exit/drop was much more cambered and rough than it is now, I snook just into the prohibited area on my belly, head just poking through the grass, every lap Dave had it right in the gutter, crossed up pressing on the pegs to get her to change direction. Very much missed, not been around as long as some on here but I havn't seen/felt the Island so subdued as when we lost him which tells us everything we need to know about DJ.

I remember Dave at Hillberry inch perfect the closest I ever seen to the wall on the approach, amazingly talented and an amazing guy. I'm sure he be a 20+ winner if he'd have been with us now. RIP gone but never forgotten.

That year I broke my ankle on a bike and couldn't get to the TT as op was day of my crossing I was gutted. After I heard the news about DJ I was pleased I wasnt on the island it was bad enough at home.
A terrible day for our sport, Still to this day we will sit with a pint and talk of the days of the V and M yamahas and TAS GSXR 1000s and wonder what if. To me DJ was an example to us all super talented but overall a great guy, humble and always smiling, just loved bikes.
RIP big lad thoughts to all the island have taken and DJs family. Also credit to Adrian Archibald the TAS team And Jefferies family for the race win after the terrible event.
A true example of why I am proud to be a biker and British !! As always looking forward to taking my treasured OGK Jefferies rep for a lap this year, ride safe all.

I shall never forget meeting him as a guest of Paul Denning at Crescent's opening of an extended showroom in Verwood, Dorset. He had time for everyone, great bloke.

Sad day, remember seeing DJ that same day spinning it up out of white gates then flying up to Stella Marris etched in my memory RIP Big Lad !

Many condolences to you and your family Nick, a terrible day.
I was stood in the queue with my 916 waiting for the ferry when we heard the news.
An old guy next to me on an MV F4 turned to me and said 'Effing hell, how sad;
let's go into town and have a few beers'
We left all our stuff and did just that and drank to him.

That guy was Phil Read; I think everyone felt it very much that year.

RIP big man, not forgotten.
