Lee Johnsons Superstock bike as fast as a superbike on Sulby
How did Johnsons Superstock bike go over 5.5mph faster than Dunlop and Hutchinson's bike along Sulby ? and as fast as top superbikes go, how does that work.

There were quite a few Stockers in that race that were clocked at 188+ down Sulby Straight and Lee's fastest was at 191.

Have you seen the size and build of Lee ???

i read somewhere a stone in weight is equivalent to around 4 hp .if so, it would make a big difference in acceleration ,and his small stature will help tuck in for top speed.

I don't know who was clocking at 188 Malcolm but the fastest I saw Hutchy and Dunlop was 186mph,  Ian Hutchinson on his PBM Superbike machine set the fastest speed trap time through Sulby at 192mph, with Anstey next quickest at 190.6mph. Old theories about like the one suggested 1st=5mph may if and a big if would only apply to maybe a 125cc but for a bike giving out over 200bhp really would not make any difference, can anyone point in the right direction of where we can get the speed trap times from?

Lee Johnson clocked 190's in laps 2 and 3 according to my notes

From my comments on the race Michael Dunlop did a 188 in the first lap and from memory there were 4 riders all clocking 188 on lap 2 I think it was. Ivan Linton was for sure one of those.

i don't understand these days, despite the 200 bhp bikes, it's claimed weight is still critical even in MotoGP. Don't make sense to me.

How did dj win on a 600 around the island ! His size must have been some disadvantage, at least pullin him up the mountain.

every kilo has to be moved by the power of the engine verses the drag co-efficient its not all linear in effect the faster you go the more drag and the more difference weight makes - in F1 they have very accurate calcs of the effect of every litre of fuel per lap on each circuit.  When i raced in the clio cup they had the formula but as I was about 2 stone overweight anyway I had to be satisfied with a strategic dump just before the off.

Its all physics at the end of the day - as for DJ dragging himself up the mountain of course the weight would be pushing him back down to Douglas so its all equal ish. Lee might have the advantage for going fast but he's probably getting a fair bouncing about on the way to Ramsey compared to someone more robust like erm Micky D?

A strategic dump. That's quality prep for a race and cheaper than titanium 👍😂
