Always an enjoyable discussion on this theme sat in the hedge every year...

Amongst our slightly biased group (local to Shipley) the consensus is that DJ would be past Joeys record by now, mainly at the expense of McG. 

Hutchy would probably have had another 3 or 4 wins at the expense of MD.

Of course there's no right answer.

How about 'if Guy were a pro racer and not a TV star / truck fitter, how many wins?' Or 'If the races were always in the afternoon how many would Bruce Anstey have?' Or 'if my Aunty had b4lls would she be my uncle?'

If DJ was still with us i agree he would have won many TT races at the probable expense of Mag !!

Hutchy without his unfortunate injury would have had more TT wins. How many we will never know.

DJ was winning races easily by 20 or 30 seconds and showboating for the crowd during his last laps such was his talent !! Races are tighter affairs these days with a few seconds covering the top boys !!

As this is what if and I have the pleasure of discussing two of my favourite TT Racers

Without Foot and Mouth in 2001 and the tragedy in 2003 – I like to think DJ would have had 15 wins by the start of 2004 and if DJ had retired aged 40 in 2013 could he then have picked up 11 TT victories in 9 years? – I tend to think YES-So if you were to suggest DJ was at his peak in 2004 and added a triple in 2004 but never again.
He could have targeted 2 wins per year for 4 years from the F1, Production, Senior or Junior to equal Joeys record in 2008. He would have equaled the record in 9 years and would have been 35- amazing

And if Joey won each of his 22 DNF's he would have won 48 TT's

Joey had plenty of DNFs when he was placed NOWHERE! Like the 92 Senior, when he pulled in with..."double vision".
He wasn't in the top ten that day before he pulled into the pits.

If MD had not wasted his time on the Yamaha and stayed with the BMW???

If John Surtees had not retired at such a young age???

always an interesting topic this, 3 name spring to mind, Ron Haslam Graham Crosby and Carl Fogerty all had plenty more in them had they continued on the island

Imagine if Rob Mclnea had continued. Only 3 or 4 TTs he competed at? He was a bit before my time but when you see his results and the speeds he was doing, well, many more wins were coming.

Jimmy Simpson could have had a hat full of wins had the machinery been able to stand his hard riding, first rider to break 60, 70 & 80mph barriers, class!!
Also Harold Daniell won pre ww2 and twice after it, probably could have challenged the then all time best of Stanley Woods (10 wins).
But in modern era I think DJ would have gone on to challenge Joeys tally, he just made it look so easy to win around here.

My opinion:

If Hutchy hadn't injured himself I think he'd be on his way to challenging JM for his high tally of wins by now, certainly in the mid teens by now perhaps?

That said, if MD hadn't injured himself, Hutchy might have found it a struggle to keep that momentum going from 2012 onwards.
