I shouldn't ask but
I know i shouldn't ask but who's decision was it for Subaru not to do a timed run this year ??

seeing as it was that important according to the propaganda of previous years that the TT could not survive without it , just wondered ! god only knows why ! seeing as I hated the thing with a vengeance ,

Me too, Eddy, but let's not give the nerks at the top any ideas that the Subaru's were missed,  they might think " what a great idea, let's have 'em backl"  !!!!!

Let's have them back I say. It was a good break from the norm. Next you will want the red arrows or the fireworks banned.

Love or loathe them, Subarus aren't put on for any fans benefit........... they are put on because they are paying the bills......... personally I don't care what they do as long as they keep sponsoring the TT

Personally, I think we can do without them, it was bad enough the accident at the bottom of Bray Hill in 2013, God forbid if it had been a 1800kg car, the backlash against the TT could have been catastrophic.

Also as marshals we sign on primarily to assist with the races and practices, not a one manufacturer speed record attempt (however I know some marshals quite like the Subaru laps, some hate them).

Mark Higgins was driving the No1 Subaru for the VIP laps this year.
It use to be Subaru USA that was the sponsors for the TT, I am not sure if the still are?

If these "vip's" really want to experience the course at speed then the organizers should arrange them a lap two up on Superstockers with JM, MD etc etc at the helm. I would pay to see their faces at the end of that.

Brilliant idea, and probably a bigger revenue generator too.

I remember seeing some of the faces that climbed off that 2 seater YZR500 that Mamola used for similar 'hospitality trips' at GP's a few years ago.

The Subaru bone must have some flavour if we are discussing something that never happened.

I suspect that, as they 'hold the lap record' they have nothing more to prove.
Now step forward some other car manufacturer to try and beat them, and pay handsomely for the privilege!

I must have been seeing things then because I saw about six of them go past us.

RE: I shouldn't ask but
Yes I did say TIMED lap DBD34 in the original question , and the reason I asked it was that Subaru made such a song and dance last year as to how much they wanted to support the TT and how important their participation in the event was to it's survival and hear we are just one year into a three year contract and they don't bother with the big one the timed lap , so who made the decision not to run the lap me wondered and why , and if it is a precursor to them pulling out and the event cant run without the six figure sum they were paying have we only one more year before we loose the TT for ever ( as if )

RE: I shouldn't ask but
I think that if you read the posts from the start to post 14 you will find that you appeared to be talking about the VIP laps that are not the timed laps that the question and all answers apart from yours were about , there is a big difference between the two

Hi Eddy

Pleasure to meet you (virtually)

Post #6 refers to VIP laps, this was the post before mine and was the one that I replied to. Post #8 was a reply to mine so three posts relate to the VIP laps.

RE: I shouldn't ask but
I'm with the rest of you guys it's a bike event, md,Jm or any of the top twenty to take the VIPs around on a stocker. I had a lap with Ron haslam at his race school when it first started and that was an eye opener let alone the TT course.

Glad to see the back of it. It is a TT ending incident waiting to happen. Last year at signpost was another near miss.

RE: I shouldn't ask but
I would still like to know who made the decision not to run a timed lap this year , was it Subaru realizing it was a irelavent exercise , lets face it they have blown hot and cold all the way through , they did two years of timed runs and providing vip cars then on the final year of the first three year contract they didn't bother even provide the vip cars they hired VW Golf's to do the job , then hay ho they sign another three year contract and what happens no timed run but do provide the VIP cars , seems a bit od when you have spent enough money to keep the TT going according to some that claimed it would collapse without the six figure sum they paid  , to then not get the max out of your investment , a strange way of running a business to me .
