Working and commenting on my experience with XR series RG500's - The XR designates a complete made and sold by Suzuki works/factory spec racing bike as opposed to the standard racing bike anybody involved with racing could go and buy for want of better descriptions, the XR series RG's looked the same but the motors were quite different inside along with other different spec/material parts fitted. Not wanting to get into anything heated I think with the XR69 is possibly defined as a totally different machine by the frame/suspension/wheels etc it had which were made for racing purposes only and not in anyway road based like previous incarnations - it was an out and out racing bike with a GS1000 derived motor. Evolution/offshoots from the same species is one thing - two totally different animals is another.
I'm sure the Formula 1 and Formula 2 specs were based around the engine being road based/derived. I think it was done so that on paper the costs would be kept down. Internals could be changed but there were rules n regs about the stock road bike external crankcases/barrels/heads etc having to look the same outward appearance - certainly an F2 350 Yamaha had to run stock cases, barrels heads etc but you could fit a dry TZ clutch, TZ pipes, TZ radiator etc all in a racing rolling chassis. I'm going a long way back to when I was spannering here early 80's so I could have forgot/mixed up/imagined some of this - if i have please let me know

I think the engines have to have clear lineage to the pre 1986 specification. As said, a bandit 1200 is linked to the oil cooled GSXR lump, same as Gary Johnson and Farquhar's Harris Yamahas run XJR1300 engines because of their lineage and relationship to the early FJ1100 engines.

I'd noticed that, just presumed they were misprints!
Had to laugh when they said that 1 MV was a 1967 replica and the other was a 1972 replica, so was newer!?!
And what was A.J. Venter going on about when interviewed by Kinners, re. engine capacity?
Funny how the XR's use Bandit and FJR engines as they look the same as engines of the era but when a friend of mine asked if he could use a YZF750 engine in an OW01 it was rejected. Even though they look identical and only differ in internals (YZF is lower spec).

I find the classic TT F1 & F2 regulations confusing and really quite amusing. Last year a FUEL INJECTED Formula Two Ducati was allowed to compete in the F2 race.

That I can't figure out unless the production start date for the YZF is past the cut off date .. maybe ??. It would be a cost effective method of putting a good looking bike like the OW01 on the grid.
Indeed YZF did start in 93 but the Bandit was much later too. I think it shows a lack of understanding more than anything.
Another rider said the worst thing you can do is ask. If you think it's eligible, then get your facts in order and enter. You only have a problem if someone protests and "if" the organiser decides the pursue the matter, then you put forward your case. Given what else is being entered, are they really likely to exclude anyone?
