Following his impressive MCE Ulster Grand Prix where he picked up his first International road race victory, Tobermore rider Adam McLean was back in action on the Isle of Man during opening practice for the 2018 Classic TT/Manx Grand Prix where he posted the two fastest laps in the Lightweight Classic TT session on the Binch Racing 250cc Yamaha.

His opening lap in 20 minutes 09.213 seconds, a speed of 112.38mph was a good 'sighter' and he improved on his second lap by 25 seconds for a speed of 114.74mph to head the Yamaha of Manxman Dan Sayle and Welshman Paul Owen on his Honda.

John McGuinness made a popular return to the 37-mile Mountain Circuit and showed he had lost none of his ability by setting the fastest lap speed of 104.95mph in the Classic Senior TT on the 500cc Winfield Paton on his only lap before the session was red flagged due to deteriorating conditions.

Lee Johnston on the Davies Motorsport Honda was fourth fastest in the worsening weather with his lap of 98.46mph, while Dean Harrison set the fastest lap of the evening in the opening Classic Superbike practice at 122.27mph on his Silicone Engineering Kawasaki.

Ballymoney's Darryl Tweed was fifth fastest on his M&D Triumph at 115.23mph in the Senior /Junior Manx Grand Prix opening session.

Meanwhile at Bishopscourt, Gerard Kinghan (Kawasaki) collected the Norman Brown Memorial Trophy after winning both Superbike races at Bishopscourt on Saturday to extend his lead in the AJ Plumbing Ulster Superbike Championship to 110.5 points over Alistair Kirk.

Kirk on his BMW finished second in both races, the second of which he led early on, and set the fastest lap of the day at 96.410mph on lap five of 10, but lost out to Kinghan by less than half a second in the end.

Jason Lynn took his 600cc Yamaha to fourth in Superbike race two, but in Supersport he won the only race from Christian Elkin to lead the championship by 41 points from the ex-double British 125cc champion.

The closest races of the day came in Supertwin where Denver Robb did the double, half a second covering the top four in race one and in race two it was a similar gap between the top three - Gary McCoy, Sean O'Neill and Cathal Graham second, third and fourth in both.
