Mercer improving after course car smash
[Image: SteveMercerUpdate1.jpg]

Positive news from Liverpool hospital

Injured Steve Mercer 'can't wait to get back on his dirt bike' as he recovers from a serious incident at this year's TT.

Mercer's bike collided with an official course vehicle following a red flag on 30 May.

An investigation into the incident, which happened after riders were told to travel back around the Mountain Course while the car sped the other way, continues.

Recent pictures posted online show Mercer sat up and smiling in a Liverpool hospital, where he's endured six operations including pelvic and spinal surgery.

The 36-year-old rider is to be moved to another hospital nearer his Kent home shortly.

His family say they've been 'bowled over' by fans' support, which also saw almost £35,000 raised towards his care.

Dan's on the mend - slowly
[Image: DanSayleheadshot.jpg]

Dan Sayle is making slow but steady progress in his recovery from the serious injuries he suffered when crashing in the Lightweight Classic TT

The joint most successful sidecar passenger in TT history, who has won three Manx Grand Prix solo races in an impressive career in road racing, was transferred to a hospital in Liverpool soon afterwards for specialist treatment.

He was initially placed in an induced coma, but came out of that last Sunday. However, he remains serious in the hospital’s critical care unit.

The crash at Ballaspur - reminiscent of Richard ’Milky’ Quayle’s incident at the same spot in 2003 - left Dan with multiple injuries, including a fracture to the base of his skull, a broken cheek, collarbone, shoulder, arm, ribs, breast bone and vertebrae.

He will have to wear a body brace for some period to mend the injuries to his back, but on the positive side there are no serious head injuries.

His mother, Rosie Christian, said yesterday that Daniel remains in severe pain, but is buoyed by all the many get well wishes from all over the world.

’We appreciate everyone who has been on this journey with us so far, from the marshals and medics at the scene of the crash to the hospital consultants. Their care has been second to none.’

She also expressed a special thank you to Wyn Evans, the Festival of Motorcycling’s riders’ welfare officer and Isle of Man Centre ACU Benevolent Fund organiser who, Rosie says, was there for them from the very first minute after the incident.

Dan’s old mate, Michael Dunlop, visited him in hospital yesterday and cheered him up no end apparently.

Sayle moves out of critical care
[Image: Danupdate2.jpg]

Sulby rider involved in serious crash last month

Injured local racer Dan Sayle has now moved out of critical care.

He sustained head, chest and spinal injuries in a crash at Ballaspur during the Lightweight race on Saturday 25 August, and was transferred to a hospital in Liverpool for treatment.

The Sulby man was originally described as in a 'serious' condition, and was sedated until last week (Thurs 6) when he was woken.

Then, on Monday (10), the joint most successful TT passenger ever was described as talking, breathing, and moving unaided.

A further update from loved ones on social media yesterday (Wed 12) said he was showing more signs of improvement.

Thanks were extended to all the well-wishers who have shown love and support, and also to "the best hospital we could ever have wished for".

Not quite how he looks today, however with his mum Rosie to look after him, I am sure his recovery will come on in leaps and bounds.
