Extended fan zone for 2021 TT

The Trackside bar in Noble's Park, partially packed up between the TT and Festival of Motorcycling

Douglas Council has given the green light for a larger licensed area for TT and MGP festivals.

However, the chairman of the regeneration and community committee, Councillor Stephen Pitts, has warned the authority would not let temporary bars stay there, empty, all summer again.

The committee had agreed to the proposal from the Department of Enterprise, to allow for the fan zone created during TT and the MGP fortnights to be extended, but without taking up more space in the park.

To do this, the DfE proposed extending the licensed area and to allow the installation of a temporary mobile bar in the fan park.

However, while TT fans will be able to have access to more watering holes, the council will not allow an increase in the number of catering options. Councillors agreed to this to protect its own tenant, the Talk of the Town restaurant.

Members of the regeneration and community committee were shown plans for the fan zone which includes a larger stage for live music, a screen for race and qualifying coverage and ’sponsor interaction’.

Councillor Ian Clague asked Mr Pitts if he was able to confirm the direction the stage would face, as residents in the area near the park were concerned over potential extra noise.

Mr Pitts said that the DfE has confirmed that the stage will operate in a way similar to the existing one, facing away from Glencrutchery Road to limit the noise impact on residents.

Councillor John Skinner also asked Mr Pitts if the bar will be removed from the park throughout the summer, avoiding the issue of it being left lying around from TT to MGP.

Mr Pitts agreed the issues the council had over the bar in Noble’s Park, where the operator ’refused’ to remove it, is one the council wanted to avoid again.

He added that if the operator of the bar refuses to remove its structure in 2021, then the council will seek to object to its further use in subsequent years.

RE: Extended fan zone for 2021 TT
Must say I was very unimpressed with the bar last year. Only called in a couple of times. It was expensive. The door man seemed a little over bearing and it had non of the atmosphere of bushys new set up at the villa. I much preferred the old bar in the paddock area. I don't recall seeing doorman at the old bar.
