Aprilia RS660
Just been reading reviews of the RS660 and with the Supertwins class proposed increase to 700cc suspect the Aprilia will give the opposition a run for their money. Think the class needed more manufactures to make it more competitive.

RE: Aprilia RS660
If it goes to 700cc then it lets the MT-07 in. I see they already race them in the Twins series as part of Moto America. The potential issue is that the Aprilia has about 25bhp more than anything else in that capacity out of the crate so it may still be a sort of one make class. That said, I'd bet that the other manufacturers are watching the RS660 very closely - especially the positive launch reviews. 650 Panigale anyone?

Personally, I think that the Supersport 300 class should replace the supertwins at the TT

But each to their own......

The super twin class was introduced as a cheep and dare I say it safe introduction to the TT. But the money needed to run a compterive super twin is probably more the a 600 super sport. With the new class A licences a 300cc race would be a good shout. But with strict limits on turning and mods. To keep the costs down.

300cc, with no limit on the number of cylinders or amount of noise!
 That'd be good.  Icon_lol

I agree completely C955. The 650 twin class was a great idea that's gone wrong as the costs have increased exponentially. It's almost impossible to control machine modifications, but starting with lower cost, lower power machinery is a good way to begin. I think stock SS300's put out around 40bhp which, combined with modern suspension and tyres, should allow them to lap the Mountain Course in very respectable times. The Manx Grand Prix runs an ultra-lightweight class which includes SS300's and the average qualifying speed is 94.33mph so race speeds must  be pretty good too.

ha ha! yes, I'd forgotten about that!
Guy Coulon , once seen never forgotten! a star.
One of these, at 297cc, would be adequate, too -

A 300cc class would probably have to be 400cc to include all the main manufacturers and then you probably get into the same situation as the supertwins.

RE: Aprilia RS660
The Supersport 300 class has homologated machines which include a cb500 honda, 390 KTM, etc

There are rules governing rev limits to make each bike competitive (Scot Smart did lot of the work on this)

Link here explains how it works: https://www.worldsbk.com/en/news/2017/In...rsport+300
