Mike Minns----MZ ?

Nailed it mate! Mike Minns on the MZ 1000S.

For those of us old enough to remember when the MZ was the commuter bike of choice for the budget conscious rider - and who would recognise the logo - there is an MZ badge on the front left (as you look) of the fairing. I picked it up first look but couldn't work out how to zoom in and assumed it was just something similar. But Borderbikes had it on their webpage. As above I never even knew they made a 1000cc bike. I think the single cylinder scorpion was the last I heard of them.

Hats off to Sticky for breathing a bit of life into the forum at what has to be a historical low point for TT fans.

I think the engine used on the MZ was a pumped up version of the Yamaha TDM but I'll stand corrected...

If you look closely you might be able to see 'Fergie' on the hump of his leathers, so you'd be right. I need to sort through some more pics, so I'll post another shot soon.

I hope Malcolm doesn't mind but I'm going to throw you a total curve ball while I prep more pics.  As a tenuous link to the main point of this forum the person I want you to identify raced on a road course on the IOM in the late 40s in a car with a bike engine and raced in the TT at Dundrod.  The shot is from a race, not a parade, at Silverstone in 2006.  Have at it!

I'm way out of my depth here but I seem to recall a series of car races that took place between 1947 and 1953 on the Willaston Circuit on the outskirts of Douglas but not a clue as to who the above driver is.

That's a good shout Eman1948.
I think he raced at Dundrod from about 1950 onwards.

I thought that might have kept you busy a little longer!  It is Stirling Moss.  I never thought I'd get to see him race - he would have been 76 when I took that and he wasn't messing about!

Yes, that was a tricky one...Massively enthusiastic about the Island and the races but in my opinion got left behind somewhat on pace.  The last time I saw him was at the Manx in 2015 and he was a long way down the start list.

from memory it was always bumpy up through may hill and that looks quite a ridge in the tarmac in the photo.

That's the 'where' sorted out! Just need the 'who' now.
