I've been thinking the same for a long time now. I seem to remember that the numbers used to have to conform to strict strict proportions, colours and backgrounds and were checked during scrutineering.

Now, with the fancy styles and abundance of sponsor's stickers, it is sometimes difficult to read the number on a bike parked on its stand.
