Ian, the term "British Isles" is geographical, not political, so Eire is indeed part of the British Isles.

However, it's not part of the United Kingdom, which is the political unit comprising England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (sorry Cargo, Norn Iron).

In 1922, when Stanley won his first TT, Ireland was in transition but not yet independent, so he wasn't a foreign rider at that time :!: :!:

If you can follow the Irish logic.
