Sorry I don't have a scanner and if I had, I' d wonder about the copyrights ?
Anyway, I have to correct my first post, since John didn't run out of fuel, trustable sources tell that the engine cut off at Governor's because he had gearbox trouble as well as clutch failure..
Refering to the '72 TT, Alberto Pagani (and certainly Ago) were probably not taking risks, since Gilberto Parlotti crashed only a couple of hours before that very race. Anyhow, John's ride aboard the Matchless was brilliant, in '72 already a lot of 2-strokes were around.....

Many thanks for the shot!
About 1976, on iomtt.com database you can read that it was fuel but I think that your sources are more reliable;-). In any case you can find here:
http://snipurl.com/o1y81 [www_iomtt_com] a beautiful portrait of John.
Yes, Agostini raced the 1972 Senior TT race well knowing that is would have been his last TT race. He wanted to win _and_ to go home. Agostini was never able to beat (also because he did never had the reason to do it) the Mike Hailwood's 1967 TT lap record (20m48s.8=108.77 mph; 1967 Senior TT lap 2). But Agostini personal best TT lap (20m52s.0=108.59 mph; 1967 Senior TT lap 2) remained for 36 years i.e. until 2003 (!!), as the fastest TT lap made by an italian rider.

P.S.
