PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes got to grips with his CBR600RR quickly on the first day of the official Portimao World Supersport test at the team’s home track in Portugal, slashing more than 3.5-seconds from his morning lap times to head the standings at the end of the day.

Portuguese home hero Miguel Praia was fifth fastest in the morning before ending the day 10th after a crash in the afternoon session. He took over a second from his lap times on the day and is unhurt. The test resumes tomorrow and concludes on Friday.

Sam:

“The Parkalgar Honda team is working really well together and I am starting to get a good feel for the bike. I did my fastest lap on the harder of the two tyres. I am happy with my lap time and progress on the first day has been good - I am looking forward to tomorrow.”

Miguel:

“I was fine this morning but then I crashed this afternoon and need to sit down with the team and look at the data to see what went wrong.”
