Bikesafe Day with the Police

Celebrating our 60 years of Motorcycle Racing with Carl Fogarty
Ducati BSB Team Demo

Fowlers Pro-Bike National - Saturday 3rd September

Fogarty Back

It will be 60 years since the first dedicated motorcycle meeting way back in 1951 and we will be celebrating in some style with a guest appearance by four times World Superbike Champion, Carl Fogarty. Add in a lunchtime display and a chance to meet the Ducati British Superbike Team with Michael Rutter and Martin Jessopp and a lot more in the pipeline plus of course an exciting day's racing. Races include the Rapid Solicitors Ducati 848 Challenge, British F2 Sidecars, British Historic Grand Prix Championship (formerly the Lansdowne Cup) the Simply Saab King of Castle Combe Trophy and so much more, so make a date in your diary now for Saturday 3rd September for what promises to be a fitting tribute to a special day in the circuit's history.

Carl's History Making Lap

Carl set the circuit's first ever 100mph motorcycle lap when he won the MCA Star Race on 19th April 1989. It was our first national bike meeting for 20 years and Carl averaged over 100mph for all 8 laps taking a 3.5 second race win from Steve Chambers with a fastest lap of 102.22 mph.

We can't wait to see Carl back here.

Avon Motorcycle Centenary

As a company we are mere youngsters to our friends at Avon down the road who this year celebrate 100 years of motorcycle tyre production at their Melksham factory. Avon have again linked with us on both the car and motorcycle side and will be joining in our race meeting celebrations with a "ride in" of classic bikes from Melksham as well as working with us throughout the year on all our motorcycle track days.

Another significant birthday year is our long term motorcycle partner, Fowlers of Bristol. The region's major motorcycle retailer reaches the grand old age of 85 this year and will again be involved with us on the track days and supporting our motorcycle meeting.

Track Day News

We like to brag that we probably invented direct booking motorcycle track days back in the early 90s. Over those 17 or 18 years or so we think over one million miles have been covered on the circuit and whilst we have not been without incidents, most of the days have seen all riders return home in the same condition as they arrived, this year we again have a choice of 12 days starting on Wednesday 20th April and despite the VAT increase have again held the price at £125.00 per day. Call Emma to book a place on 01249 782417 or email her on emma@castlecombecircuit.co.uk.

BLD Ride In To Support our Safety Performance Riding Days

We are delighted to welcome BLD the UK's largest and leading motorcycle specialist, providing end to end nationwide claims handing, plus a one-stop shop for all repairs, MOT and services, to custom graphics and race paint and discount tyres. BLD will be joining us as partners to our motorcycle activities and are offering discounts to all friends of Castle Combe including: 20% off a full bike or car paint job, or 10% off a part bike or car paint job (free delivery and collection of bikes included), MOTs for £9.99 at the Hurn, Southampton, Brighouse and Ringwood branches,10% off any crash repairs and servicing, tyre discounts, Meta Cat1 alarms for £199 incl VAT and fitting. First seen here in 2004 when they sponsored Karl Harris' Superbike debut at our Superbike Grand National Meeting, BLD have been regular visitors since. Now however they are partners, joining Fowlers, Motorcycle Direct Insurance and Somerset Road Safety Partnership, promoting safer riding through our much acclaimed motorcycle safety performance days through to our track days and our race meeting.

Motorcycle Safety Days

Our motorcycle safety days offer a very different approach to riding, advice and instruction. Headed up by multi-race winner, the colourful and entertaining, Rob Jones. Rob and his team will have you riding safer and having a lot of fun in equal measures. There are a choice of 3 dates with prices held at £99.00.

To book a place phone Emma on 01249 782417 or email emma@castlecombecircuit.co.uk, it's great fun and might save your life.

Sound Restrictions on Bike Track Days

Frustrating as it is for customers, rest assured it is worse for us organisers as our tough council imposed sound regulations must be enforced. If we knowingly break the rules then we put in jeopardy the whole day, unfair for those riders whose bikes conform.

We always operate a zero tolerance policy but are happy to test a bike prior to a customer booking, just phone the circuit office to ensure that there is a sound tester around. Even if your bike is in completely standard showroom trim it might not meet our stringent regulations. Like any other component silencers do wear out. We try and keep our website up to date with details on bikes that, in our experience will probably fail, but currently those that we know will experience challenges are:

Any make & model of bike with short type stubby silencers.

Ducati 748/749/916/996/998/999, fitted with Termignoni open pipes, but any with standard pipes SHOULD pass.

Ducati 1098R
Ducati 1198
Honda CBR 1000RR - 2008 model on
KTM RC8
Suzuki GSXR600
Suzuki GSXR600 K6
Suzuki GSXR 750 K6 & K7
Suzuki GSXR1000 K6 - 2006 model with standard exhaust
Yamaha R6 - 2006 model
Yamaha R1 - 2008 and 2009 model

It's a great shame to exclude riders of these bikes, but even with the regulations the vast majority of our customers' bikes get through.

The Police are Back in Town - Saturday 4th June

One of the highlights of the two wheel activities last year was the Police Bikesafe and Castle Combe Track Day event and this year's promises so much more.

Incredible value at just £25 booked in advance, you turn up, have your bike checked over by qualified Police motorcyclists who will advise on any areas on your bike that may need attention. You then enjoy a road ride with Police outriders demonstrating positioning and hazard awareness before returning back to the circuit for a debrief on your riding techniques. It's then into the circuit briefing before venturing out on the track, possibly for your first track riding experience. Any bikes are welcome. Last year we had learners on 125s right through the motorcycling spectrum to sports bikes. All are very welcome and all will benefit from all aspects of the day. The paddock area will be busy with displays from many of the leading dealers, manufacturers and accessory providers plus an amazing display by top trials and stunt rider, Steve Sutton. If you have never believed in sky hooks then Steve will do his best to convert you.

Other special attractions displays are being planned so check out the Police website for further information: www.bikesafe.co.uk
