The 2011 Manx Grand Prix road safety campaign has been launched.

It features a series of hard-hitting photos of real crash scenes under the headline 'Stay Alert, Stay Alive'.

Head of the Roads Policing Unit Inspector Terry Stephen is expecting an increased attendance at this year's event, and more visitors on the roads means a greater risk of accidents.

He says police will be working closely with the Department of Infrastructure to keep the roads safe throughout the two-week festival.

The Mountain Road will remain two-way throughout the fortnight, although people are being advised not to use the route to travel from Douglas to Ramsey unless they absolutely have to.

The Road Safety Team will be organising static displays at various locations around the Island, with the promotional vehicle which anyone can visit to discuss their road safety issues.

Minister for Infrastructure Phil Gawne says the key message from the Road Safety Team is to enjoy the Grand Prix but stay safe on the Island's roads, ride according to the conditions and never drink and ride.
