TT ace Guy Martin line-up for Classic Trial

Guy Martin and former Senior TT winner Steve Plater are entered for this weekend’s Manx International Classic Trial, described by riders and spectators alike as the best trial of its type in Europe.

The event caters for a total of 200 riders, of which 160 will ride pre-65 bikes plus 40 twinshocks and competitors this year will travel from as far away as New Zealand, USA, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, South Africa and Austria.

With approximately 30 miles each day, the southern route on Saturday goes along the coastal route at Pooil Vaaish and close to the magnificent coastal scenery at Cronk ny Arrey Laa, while the northern route on Sunday includes hazards in the Snaefell area.

Most of the sections are spectator-friendly with many groups easily accessible. Those easiest to get to are identified in the event programme, which can be obtained from the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal.

The event is now in its 16th year and some competitors have ridden in every event. Regulars include former TT winner Mick Grant, ex-speedway star Eric Boocock, all-rounder Arthur Browning and three-time Classic Trial winner John Maxfield.

Manx Two Day Trial sidecar winner Robin Luscombe is returning for another crack at the event he won in 2005, riding a 250 Triumph Cub.

The Saturday route will start at the Southern 100 paddock on the Billown Course where the first competitor will leave at 8.30am.

Sunday sees the start transferred to the TT Grandstand and riders will set off on the northern route at 8am.

The first riders to finish on Sunday are expected at St George’s Football Club from approx 3pm where welcome refreshments can be obtained.

Any event such as this cannot go ahead without the help of marshals and observers.
